Overview:

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

Total registered cars in Canada: 26,000,000

EV cars GM sold in Q1: 5,750

Sigh.

We've got a long way to go here in North America. On the upside, HEY TECH BROS, you only have to sell 6000 EVs to be #1! You could be HUGE!

I don’t really want the tech bros building cars. I want car companies who know how to actually manufacture a car that can also be repaired and stay on the road. Not people who think “right to repair” is an obscenity and shipping a product that isn’t actually finished but can hopefully be fixed with a software update is acceptable for devices where death is a real possibility in case of failure.

Having driven the Equinox and Blazer, there’s a lot to like about GM’s offerings and the Equinox is definitely a finalist for when I’m seriously looking, hopefully this fall. The main drawbacks I see are ditching Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, although the infotainment system supplied by Google allows installing some apps from the Play store (but also a drawback if you want to de-Google), and the Ioniq 5/EV6 have noticeably better acceleration and faster DC Fast Charging, if you have the right charger voltage. I think the Chevy charging speed is adequate, though, and not something I would use often.
