Three Māori lawmakers in New Zealand have been suspended for up to three weeks for a haka they performed last November. Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, Rawiri Waititi and Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke were protesting against legislation that would have reinterpreted the Treaty of Waitangi, an 1840 agreement between the British Crown and Māori chiefs. The bill was defeated in April. Critics said it would have undone decades of progress for Māori people — about 20% of the country's population. Here's more from NBC.
