I cannot think of any reason they would do this unless they were just actively trying to kill people. We've known that asbestos is bad for 100 years and they finally banned the last kind of it very recently. This doesn't even make sense economically as it's not even in high demand. It would be cheaper and more economically viable to leave it exactly where it is. Next thing you know they are gonna start putting lead back into gasoline for literally no reason besides "fuck you."

Every sign points to them actively trying to kill people.

Yeah this is when the wealthy have decided the lower classes are expendable. They don't actually care about poor people having more babies. They just want rich people having more babies. They would like to see us gone because they think they can offset climate change by getting rid of a lot of us. Too bad for them they use ten times the resources as the bottom 50% of society.

My stab in the dark is to make asbestos lawsuits worthless.

If there is money to be made or saved by the capital class, you bet your ass Trump will make it happen.

Lead back in gas isn’t that far fetched. I have heard older folks complain about the fact that leaded gas isn’t a thing anymore because “it keeps the engine cleaner”.

[–] viscacha@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago

Which is complete bs to begin with. Lead was added to fortify benzine for higher compression and to “lubricate” the valves. Modern additives and motor construction makes lead completely unnecessary and even possibly detrimental. It basically was used to mask constructional shortcomings of old motors.

And it’s still used in aviation gasoline, specifically 100LL which is used in many piston-engine aircraft.

Why everything he does is evil? I don't get it.

In 2017, 1.3 million tonnes of asbestos were mined worldwide. Russia was the largest producer with 53% of the world total

We tried microplastics and PFAS for a few decades, clearly they aren't killing us fast enough. Bring back the GOAT

Installation of blowers around the white house and sprinkling with asbestos dust around the clock.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I know! Let's put it back in cigarette filters and give them to children!

[–] twinnie@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I didn’t realise it wasn’t already banned. It’s been banned in the UK since 1999.

[–] boatswain 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It is banned; they're talking about un-banning it

[–] breecher@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It should be mentioned that it was only banned in the US in 2024 under Biden, so obviously yet another reason why he would want to overturn the ban (on top him being paid to overturn it of course).

[–] ideonek@piefed.social 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You baned ASBESTOS in 2024???!!! It's not the right century.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It hasn't been used in decades, banned or not

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 7 points 1 week ago

I think my favourite part is that it was banned in the us in 1989 but then unbanned in 1991 after a fight in the court of appeals.

Oh and there are still some asbestos uses allowed (cement sheets, industrial diaphragms, etc.) but the us is not unique in this.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Like restarting production or slowing down the decontamination?

[–] breecher@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago

Restarting production. Trump has been praising asbestos for years, so the people eager to restart that production has obviously been paying him for some time.

[–] Sidhean@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

PRISTINE Asbestos will BRING BACK JOBS to the US and KEEP its citizens WARM. So much for global WARMING if we need to return to GOOD OLD ASBESTOS
