A federal judge in the United States has ordered the release of Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, who has been detained since March by immigration authorities over his involvement in Palestinian rights protests at Columbia University.

The decision on Friday came from a federal court in New Jersey, where Khalil’s lawyers are challenging his detention. It is separate from the legal push against his deportation that will continue to take place in immigration courts.

Last time this happened, DoJ said they still had grounds to hold him for other unstated reasons.

Last time, the judge said they can't hold him just because Marco Rubio wants to deport him. They were allowed to hold him under the flimsy green card application allegations. This is taking away their other excuse.

Until we arrest someone for contempt of court foe not following court orders, the beatings will continue.
