One of my cats is frequently one hour early. Sometimes six.

All well and good until Mr mittens realises he gets a treat every time he jumps up next to the medicine cabinet, and Doris ends up having a feline induced overdose.

Works for me. Every evening at 10 I need to take my meds. I feed my cats their dinner right after. At 9.50 they all come to where I am and start demanding food. I never forget my meds.

Cat owner dies of overdose after cat repeatedly demands treats

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 45 points 1 day ago

My house would be an endless battle of me wondering if I took my meds, and him wondering if he got his treats.

I make my cats give me snuggles to get treats. I love a cuddled life.

One other thing you can do is to set a daily alarm on your phone. The downside of the phone solution is that you can simply turn the alarm off and it just goes away.

But if you rely on cats, then you'll at least have to go to where the treats are.

This advice may not have been funded by the Feline Mafia, but it wouldn't sound any different if it was.

I don't have a cat but if I learned anything on Lemmy it's that cats constantly demand food

Our cats always have food available… but the youngest will meow at you if you walk by her feeding area, wanting you to watch her have a few bites… she has a different way of meowing to let us know she is actually out of food, but you have to watch her eat a bite of food every time you walk by the feeding area…

The older cat doesn’t give a fuck, but she is more friendly in general and will immediately jump in your lap if you sit on the couch.

I think it's good to give them the autonomy to eat when ever! Not sure if it works for all cats but good to know it works for yours

It definitely does not work for all cats and cat owners should use this approach cautiously. My cat massively over-ate when she had 24/7 access to the food.

Before her two biggest meals of the day, my cat will spend anywhere from 30 min to an hour being annoying about wanting food now. That’s at most 2 hours of the day, so proportionally a small amount. But lord do they know how to make you feel every minute of it, lol.

Honestly, it's a bit of a joke. They don't.

Of course, cats are not a monolith, so even my statement should be taken with a grain of salt.

If it works, who cares if a cat wrote it?
