Some Lemmy "lefties" are actually just liberals who hate America and want some token reforms of capitalism. If you look at it that way the actions of the extreme/stupid users starts to add up.

As AVGN once put it, it's like choosing the dog shit that is all mushy and wet that has been in the shade all day, vs. the dog shit that has dried out in the sun across the street. Yes, the dried out dog shit is still better to step in, but it is still dog shit.
I've found some of the more shit post focused communities to actually be useful (or at least I did back when i still used Reddit).
PrisonHooch had more helpful advice and recommendations than HomeBrewing; PoliticalCompassMemes actually allowed space for Leftists to debate the Far-Right; Cremposting was where you went to discuss your tinfoil hat theory's on the works of Brandon Sanderson; etc. (I know there was a dozen or so of these I used to lean into, but those are the three that immediately come to mind).
