I've seen people posting tweets from public figures talking about alligators, seen other people joking about alligators. It appears to me that the issue is political, not environmental, but I don't fully get the picture.

What's going on?

It's the name of the new Concentration camp where migrants will be sent.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 15 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

They want to feed brown people to alligators. That's it. it's that simple.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

From the looks of it it's worse. They want people to feed themselves to alligators, much more sinister and dishonest.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

It's about giving up hope.

"Alligator Alcatraz" is a new concentration camp built in the swamps of Florida. They're selling Alligator Alcatraz merchandise to fund some cartoonishly evil dickwad's political campaign.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago

Time to counter that merch by spreading merch where the "Alcatraz" is replaced by "Auschwitz".

Who tf supports a concentration camp... And displays merch of it... And you say somebody is making a profit? Wtf

land of the free

making merch for concentration camps illegal would be un-american. think of the freedom of companies to do what they want!

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago

Yes, it's the American way.

This is just one of the people who whispers into Trump's ear.

I've seen this one in particular

Understanding the context now doesn't make me feel any better :/

Not to mention, that 65 million figure is the total number of Latino people in the US - born citizens, naturalized citizens, documented and undocumented immigrants. It’s clear that they’re ramping up to imprison anyone they deem insufficiently white.

We’re in extremely dangerous territory.

[–] defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I'm surprised they haven't started calling black people the n-word openly yet.

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Some never stopped...

The problem is propaganda and a deliberate decision by MAGA to make their every effort to refuse to see a duck for a duck.

These people don't support "concentration camps" they support "detention centers" that "house immigrants" before deportation.

Nevermind that it's a distinction without a difference, morally it feels better to tell yourself it's not a concentration camp and that you'd never support a concentration camp. But they are, and they do. They'd just never admit it to you or themselves.

As for the profit: of fucking course. This is America, we socialize corporate expenses and privatize corporate profits for everything. The intended purpose for taxation of the working class now is to feed the ultra wealthy a competition free source of additional wealth.

[–] Flickerby@lemmy.zip 17 points 16 hours ago

The MAGA half of America is very much pro-genocide. It's terrifying

Like LucasWaffyWaf said: cartoonishly evil dickwads.

Florida has a lot of alligators – DeSantis is building a concentration camp in Florida (in the middle of Big Cypress National Preserve, a environmentally protected area) – and the conservatives came up with the bright idea of calling it “Alligator Alcatraz”

[everyone else is trying to decide between “Alligator Auschwitz”, “Everglades Concentration Camp”, or “Gulag 34141”]

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 10 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Gator Gulag has a ring to it but what the hell is wrong with Americans? So many things wrong with that

[–] cerement@slrpnk.net 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

that’s what happens when you let corporations ~~bribe~~ lobby your politicians

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 5 points 11 hours ago

I was born and raised in a country with plenty of deep seated corruption. I understand the mechanics allowing this to happen, but the style, that's american style. We didn't get things like these

[–] notsosure@sh.itjust.works 13 points 15 hours ago

Alligator Auschwitz more like

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago

"Alligator Alcatraz" is the new immigrant concentration camp they've built in a swamp in Florida on Native land. It's surrounded by alligators and poisonous snakes and very remote.
