I feel like this is kind of downplaying the fact that Japan is easily one of the most xenophobic countries in the world, with a healthy dose of racist as well. If you arent a born ethnically Japanese in Japan you can never be a citizen of Japan, only a national. This party has nothing to do with that being the case. Japan is just that kind of a country, and even more extreme than their fellow colonial powers in that regard. They just get a pass from the west for it because they are asian…

This is a dormant tendency in at least half of mankind in any country you look. That's why it's so easy to commandeer if someone has the means by which to do so.

Pretty much the same set of circumstances as in Europe. Slow economic growth + dissatisfaction about young voters + inflation + establishment party lacking any plan beyond muddling along => populist revolt => governing gets even harder and things get worse.
