General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I'd rather burn Elon for warmth than use his electricity.

Make sure to write to OFGEM and let them know how you feel about Tesla having a license.

In case anyone else wants a template:

I would like to object to Tesla becoming a UK electricity supplier. I do not believe the person who cut USAID and is projected to lead to the deaths of 14 million people (double the member of Jews killed in the holocaust) should be put in charge of anyone’s electricity supply in the UK.

That kind of psychopathic behaviour should not be anywhere near a vital and live saving service.

I mostly just went with 'I don't think we should be arranging essential services with an actual fascist" and included the gif.

I'd rather go back to burning coal, thanks.

I still can't believe he did that.

I still can't believe the US hasn't arrested him for being a Nazi.

The US is weird.

When your electricity goes off because you said something bad about Elon and he heard it...

[–] unknown@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

and he heard it...

...because every electrical appliance in your house is now connected to the internet and recording you.

Naw, actually Palantir AI is analyzing all data it has collected about you and predicts the likelihood that you will do something disruptive to the oligarchy.

If you’re determined to be a threat to Elon you will be exterminated ahead of time!

electricity supply is regulated in the UK to the extent that companies cannot make money while fully complying with Ofgem rules, that have matured over the past 40 years or so.

They will either make no profit at all, or end up paying the regulator large fines all the time. I’m fine with this.

[–] GreatAlbatross@feddit.uk 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Or in true shit company fashion, promise to follow the rules, not follow them, then sue/petition the various bodies that they can't make money unless the rules are removed.

cool but then all the energy companies will be able to do that, so they will:

  • enable a much more competitive market for everyone else
  • still have huge investments to make to get a seat at the table
  • struggle to win business because their brand is trash

I presume they will hold your electrical supply hostage if you ever make post criticism of their Nazi CEO?
