NEW YORK (AP) — Special U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said Sunday that Russian leader Vladimir Putin agreed at his summit with President Donald Trump to allow the U.S. and European allies to offer Ukraine a security guarantee resembling NATO’s collective defense mandate as part of an eventual deal to end the 3 1/2-year war.

Didn't Ukraine already have one of those when they gave up their nukes? Much good did that do.

The issue was those never said what happens if someone breakes the treaty.

Trump is a profligate liar so that weighs about as much as his claims about ivermectin vs. COVID or pretending he didn't know anything about Project 2025

“Allow”. They could just step up and do it. What card can he play other than nuclear annihilation? Call his bluff.

“Style” — how about just letting them join NATO and be done with it.

That might actually be effective, so I'm sure that Trump will be opposed to it, because it won't please Putin to support it.

Ukraine is not going to join NATO, ever.

Something like this was said recently by Trump

thankfully, Trump is not eternal.

Sure, and Trump also said he'd pull out of NATO. So cementing it as "ever" while his own say on the matter is quite limited, makes me not give half a shit what he thinks.

Did you read the news about the recent meeting?

Unfortunately neither what Putin says or what the Trump administration says is worth more than a fart in the wind.
