Okay...I don't get it.
It's because they tried really hard to make a bad joke work.
The bones are good but the set up is lacking.
It needs to be couple's therapy, so the wife is in the room. And, while I like the image of him crying but still going to say it, it doesn't fit with the new setup, so you'd have to change him to being unable to help himself.
For brevity, maybe just change the last line to:
my wife: ...I swear to God, Jon. Don't.
My husband and I agreed on the rule that he gets one borat "my wife" a month after he abused the fuck out of it for a week straight. About 5 days into the month, every month, he remembers his allotment reset back to 1 and says it. Never fails to get an eye roll and a chuckle out of me.
