That's a pretty bad comment - probably unjustified
Theoretically speaking though, what would a community member have to do to justify that comment? Maybe support a party that is systematically destroying democracy, replacing it with kleptocracy? That supports cruelty as though it was a fun sport? That supports racism? That dismisses health and climate science as though it was just someone's opinion? All of the above and more? Would that be enough to justify such harshness?

I agree with the first part. I don't think you should kill yourself, but if you moved to Africa forever, I wouldn't mind.
I'm fine with someone wanting me to move away. Not so cool with them asking me to kill myself and videotape it for them!
I have been to parts of Africa, and it's beautiful! But I won't be moving there.

I've just arrived home from vacation and this is what I found when I logged in. My bf read it before I did and yelled out a "What the fuck?!" So I came to see what he was talking about and see that DM. My bf is very upset. Sucks because I was just talking up how great Lemmy is. And then he sees that message directed toward me. :/
Very troubling that there are people like this on here.
I reported the DM via the flag icon on the actual DM and sent a message to @ruud@lemmy.world an admin for .world, but I don't know if that was the right person to report it to or not.
Thank you. Honestly. I used your message as an example to my bf of what kind of people Lemmy should be made of. People who are open-minded, even if on opposing sides of the political spectrum.
In my experience most people are Lemmy are pretty cool, but I'm been noticing an uptick in extreme hatred from people who self-describe as "left."
I for sure don't subscribe to everything he convervative party does, but in my little area, the conservatives have been cool and welcoming to me. Seeing a hateful comment like that was definitely a new thing for me. This kind of division is bad for everyone, regardless of political party.

Just started using lemmy, and damn it's infested with radical leftist. Got banned and many posts removed from /fuck_ai because I dare to speak in defence of ice and the need to protect a countries own values
Yeah, much of the hate that Lemmy pretends to despise is on full show all over. I've been called a Nazi because of posting links to APNews.com articles that weren't immediately critical of some republican initiative or something.
On Lemmy, they are very much of "If you aren't aligned exactly with us, you are against us. And a nazi pig!"
So much for being open-minded and diverse, because diverse views are definitely NOT welcomed on Lemmy. Look at how many downvotes my post got. The guy told me to kill myself! lol He got a 2-day ban from his instance. I've been permabanned from instances for posting AP News articles. lol
Look in this community and see if there is any Nazi stuff. There's not. Not even close. It's mostly just links to well-known news sources. Lemmy likes to call any news that they don't agree with, PROPAGANDA, even if its from AP News or BBC or The Hill.
I'm libertarian. I've been calling for a release of the epstein files since day one. But nah, according to Lemmy, I'm a nazi. Even tho I'm trans and have never posted (nor do I believe in) nazi rhetoric or nazi articles. lololol
