Cocktails, the libationary art!

A place for conversation about cocktails, ingredients, home mixology, the bar industry or liquor industry, glassware - this is not an exhaustive list. If you think it's in some way related to cocktails it's probably fine.

If you post something you didn't create give credit whenever possible.

Pictures and recipes are encouraged when posting a drink as a standalone post. Example of an ideal drink post:

We love garnishes.

Remember the code of conduct, keep it nice. In terms of cocktails- specific etiquette that might be different from other communities:

Mentioning your blog, insta, website, book or bar is allowed, yes. For now at least, we do allow self-promotion. If it gets out of hand this might change.

A good post with a drink you don't like is still a good post! Try not to conflate the drink and the post or poster. If someone has a relevant title, gorgeous photo and clearly formatted recipe of what you consider a truly terrible drink, a comment is more appropriate than a downvote.

On that topic: Polite critique/reviews of drinks (or posts, images, etc.) is allowed here. Encouraged , even. It's a good tool for improving your drinks and content. Really, just be nice.

My friend developed this recipe in advance of his wedding, and I made it to be his guinea pig. It’s super tasty, and nicely balanced (the agave goes well both with the espresso and the tequila; I could imagine knocking it down a little to make it slightly more coffee/forward).

  • 1 oz Mr. Black cold brew coffee liqueur
  • 1 oz reposado tequila
  • 1 oz espresso
  • 1/2 oz agave

I am thinking about something similar for Halloween (I will make my famous/infamous Black Jellybean but it's polarizing). Will have a taste testing night with different parameters, but Galliano, and either moka pot coffee, chilled, or nitro cold brew from Dunkin Donuts, and choosing between Tequila Ocho reposado or Gonzalez 1939. And agave, yes. A coffee cocktail seems seasonal somehow.

Has the event happened? Was this well received, and was it easy to batch?

His wedding is in March, so no batch details yet! But I know his plan for batching is to use cold brew concentrate instead of espresso. If you’re not familiar with concentrate I’m not sure if you can buy it, but when I make cold brew at home it ends up needing 3 parts water for every part of cold brew.

Oh, I make do cold brew from coffee, grind it coarse and have a contraption that is like a beaker with a central metal filter column that holds the coffee. It does come out strong but is so smooth I am having trouble imagining it working in the cocktail.

I can't have too many versions to try, I've had these parties before when working up recipes and 4 seems to be the magic number of variations.

Ooh finally something I can make without a trip to the store. Will report in a couple hours with my thoughts but this looks great

A couple of hours? Why wait?? 😂 (said by the person who made this during a work day)

Sounds great!

You can sub that Mr. black and agave for some liquor 43 and you've got a Carajillo with a punch!

I don’t, typically — I prefer my coffee in liquid form 😄
