Hi everyone.

The main motivation for this is that lemmy.world hosts most of the communities in the fediverse, so it's a large point of failure.
They also have some performance issues sometimes because of their size.

There's also recently been some drama about a mod in !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com : https://lemmy.world/post/36059687

What do you guys think?
The main issue is that we could lose a lot of subscribers, since there isn't any migration function in lemmy yet. Some people may not see the post announcing a move, and not subscribe to the new community.

If you guys decide to move it, this community will be locked, and a post will be pinned to redirect people to the new community.

I'd also like some suggestions for what the new server could be.

Hey, sorry - I've been taking taking a short break from Lemmy for the last couple of weeks.

I'm personally in favor of keeping it here. I think the stability and longevity of the community here outweighs the decentralizing benefits of uprooting.

Thanks for responding.

I think I'll keep it here for now.

I created. !dullsters@dullsters.net to help decentralize I still keep !dull_mens_club@lemmy.world active though since it's still popular.

I could keep this community open, and remind people of the new one like @PugJesus@lemmy.world does.

  1. It's fine where it's at?
  2. YPTB is a cesspool of drama blown out of proportion / "look at me, I'm such a victim!!". Last time I looked (I blocked that community), it was mostly just a bunch of frequent flyers not realizing they're the problem being circle-jerked in the comments by other people who are frequently and properly modded. To make a decision to move based on that, especially given the provided post is from someone who always seems to be involved in some kind of drama + a mod who gets a regular 15 minutes of hate over nothing (and people flat-out making up narratives to make them the victim) seems like a flimsy excuse.
  3. Looking at your alts, the most likely candidate instances for the new community would be dbzer0 or anarchist nexus, both of which I've blocked and neither of which I particularly like (blocked them for a reason).
  4. It'll add yet another dead community to the community list that looks like "[Closed - moved to....]

If you want to make a new community elsewhere, go for it. But instead of closing this one, find someone else to take it over.

  1. I don't really agree. LW controls too much of the communities on the fediverse.
  2. Fair, some stuff there is very overblown, but the Jordan Lund post is legitimate (at least in my opinion). I had been meaning to make posts like these before, but that post was the tipping point. I moved !iiiiiiitttttttttttt@lemmy.world when there was no active drama about LW.
  3. I explicitly asked other people to suggest what server it may be moved to. I personally don't think dbzer0 or AN is a good fit for a very generic community like this one.
