Trust them to do what exactly? Were y'all asleep during covid? You can't trust humans to put a mask on during a pandemic. But I don't go into every interaction assuming the worst of the other person. Now if we're talking about the American government? Yeah that's a valid sentiment.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Trust them to have basic human decency, trust them to not invade Canada, trust them to rigorously oppose a criminal regime?

This is pretty much how it was between us and Croatia. I think it's actually improved between the peoples, while the governments...they are always xenophobic, aren't they?
I don't think "xenophobic" at all describes the Canadian government's attitude to the USA right now. If anything, they're being too kind.
So America can be a brutal regime that fucks over the global south and Canadians trust that. They ally that. Canada has been a close ally throughout so much evil.
But now we inflict a little evil on you guys and suddenly you don't trust us? I mean that kinda implies you guys liked us before?
It's like a moral abyss from the north pole to the Mexican border.

Unfortunately it's not clear our federal and provincial governments share these goals.
It is time for a US and Canadian citizenship exchange program. There are plenty of US citizens that would enjoy life in Canada and the racist neo-Nazi Canadians would relish life in a deregulated red run Oblast.
