Anyone have any idea what the "Technology" instance which OP tried is?

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago

I just checked the thread, they were using LW and having issues with captchas for whatever reason

[–] JayGray91@piefed.social 18 points 1 week ago

habarnam in that screenshot has a good point. Everybody wants to be spoon fed content but not contribute the content

I'm guilty as well but I'm joining conversations where ever I feel comfortable with the topic.

It seems like a 5th comment should be there, but if one of you linked directly to piefed.social or another blacklisted domain it won't appear

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Yeah. I'm fairly certain linking Lemmy got me shadowbanned from reddit.

Or they could have said a naughty word. Reddits shadow autodelete function is out of control.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In this context, it seems more likely for someone to post a banned Thrediverse domain than just swear

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think linking to lemmy or piefed trigger that. I am sure I have done it many times

https://lemmyapps.com/ has been shadow banned for at least six months

Don't understand why the 2nd comment says "there are too many options with PieFed..."

I think the PieFed settings page is quite straight forward and easy to understand.

I will add that as I host it myself, there are probably additional things a user doesn't see - Piefed is great. but they really need a pass at making sure all the cool things they are adding are easy to set up, documented well, and accessible.

One example is that on the admin page, there are lots of tabs with different things to configure. Then, for some reason, a different set of tabs is at the bottom of the page with different names for some of the same tabs, and others that are missing from the top etc.

I fully appreciate the active and constant development, but it really needs a UI pass.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago

We're definitely aware, there's an ongoing discussion about reviewing the admin panel as well as permissions on https://chat.piefed.social/

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

Depends, to be honest it's kind of a moving environment, options can come and go, so I see @Demigodrick@lemmy.zip's point.

I like PieFed, but down the line once things are stabilized we probably need to revisit all the settings to streamline things a bit

when the OP just wants to diss the Threadiverse

First two phrases of the original post do give that impression, with the accusation being as generic, and then finishing in the third phrase by implying communities in Lemmy are abandoned/stale/etc. Can't be sure of the OP's intention, but having seen cases like that in other forums and even some news medias, feels like OP there is a troll / paid actor pretending to to be just a clueless but interested user.

that last comment perfectly sums up why there's no Youtube alternatives out there

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tbf it's also expensive as hell to host video at scale

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago

Yep video hosting is much more expensive than text, audio or imagery.

And they're still thinking in terms of apps/platforms. Well, at least one of them said fediverse.
