Did anyone actually read this post and the links? None of these links confirm what this post claims

This is actually a very legitimate worry

I'm gonna re iterate what I said about the FOSS community the first time I came across this.

As a whole FOSS has a nazi bar problem and it needs to be addressed.

That's a broad brush you're painting with there, sport.

Let's pretend that people who raise concerns about large contributors being fascists aren't told to shut up because they "do good work".

Btw I'm not your sport buddy.

Thousands of FOSS projects that have nothing to do with Nazis but a couple that have some dickheads on them and now FOSS has a Nazi problem. I don't think that's a reasonable conclusion except in pearl-clutching minds.

And I'm not your buddy, pal.

Brave is one of the best-known FOSS projects in the world of web browsers, and its leaders are MAGA.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Linux is absolutely the best known FOSS project and it's leaders are not Nazis.

Checkmate atheists.

[–] Maragato@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

My message does not say that FOSS project leaders are MAGA, but rather that there are increasingly more FOSS projects with MAGA leaders, such as Brave.

Their leaders align with the democratic plurality of the US?

WTF, I hate democracy now!

[–] Maragato@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Using democracy to gain power and then eliminating dissent and democracy itself was already used in the last century by German politicians. ;)

[–] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Maga is a minority of US citizens. Just remeber Trump barely won half of the half of eligble voters that actually voted.

That said. Standing on priciples sometimes means fully opposing what the majority of people sometimes. Chattel slavery to child brides to the trail of tears were all at different points the "popular" (dominate and effectivly unopposed) positions at different times. They were also sick and twisted autrasties that stain the nations history with blood and traumas of innocents.

That's what I think. Fascism and MAGA ideas are increasingly being introduced into FOSS projects through the leaders of those projects. The biggest example is Brave Software with Brendan Eich and Peter Thiel contributing money to Brave Software. Peter Thiel is a character who believes in a single world government using AI outside of any democracy.

Sorry, but your description doesn't paint an accurate-enough picture of this guy.

Peter Thiel is a lunatic who believes that AI regulation is the anti-christ, and he's currently one of the most powerful people in the world.

I doubt he actually believes that. He's just using that rhetoric to get Christians on board.

"Nazi bar"? Like a limbo stick? Cba you explain what you mean? Honestly curious.

[–] scintilla@crust.piefed.social 31 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I appreciate honest curiosity.

This is where I got the term from and that and the tolerance paradox are basically how I interact with Nazis, racists, ect.

[–] brahn@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago

That... Makes so much more sense now. Thanks!

A bar that allows nazis appeals to nazis, leading to more nazis, until the bar is known as a bar for nazis.

[–] Cruel@programming.dev 3 points 1 week ago

I'm guessing we should divide FOSS into political camps? We can't code in open source projects with contributors that have political positions we oppose?

This seems to be the trend I'm seeing.

They are community and have the power to move their contributions elsewhere. A fork was already started but there wasn't much traction https://auxolotl.org/ back when. Maybe it's time for more people to actually switch.
