But the Disney movie does have the best illustrations for Zeus facts.

Once upon a time, there was a hole with no dick in it

AND THEN ALONG CAME ZEUS

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

Rejoice mortal! For I have decreed that we shall bang!

Disney movies are obviously the best source of accurate portrayals of historical events/myths.

For example: Hamlet was a lion named Simba.

who were timon and pumba in the original swedish?

[–] nyctre@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why swedish? Wasn't Hamlet set in Denmark? Written by some English bloke so original is in English anyway.

if someone's gonna make fun of the danes i expect them to be swedish, german or norwegian

Zeus is the guy that fucks everything with legs, no?

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

~~legs~~ hole

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

Legs optional, probably

Tbh selling a Disney movie with a mythology-accurate Zeus would be pretty difficult (Zeus was a serial rapist).

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

In all earnestness? Or with the greatest driest sense of humor since Norm Macdonald?

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 14 points 4 days ago

In all earnestness is frighteningly common for people who don't have the first clue what they're talking about.

[–] NovaSel@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Even if we ignore the fact that Zeus was a serial cheater and r*per, isn't Ares he and Hera's son?

[–] BastingChemina@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

That would make him a God.

[–] whatsisface@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Didn't stop him from cucking his brother Hephaestus. This message is brought to you by the Athenian propaganda department, you can't dispute us cause few Spartan sources survived.

[–] Microtonal_Banana@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

Round my way the only response would be "awww bless your heart."

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 9 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Besides it being easier to list the sons Zeus didn't produce, it would be easier to list the animals Zeus didn't take the form of two seduce women.

Thinking about that, women in ancient Greece must have been very easy to seduce.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Hmm, yes, maybe. But to be honest, they were probably just trying to hide affairs and not really shagging Zeus. But don't quote me on this!

[–] railway692@piefed.zip 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Male gods raping mortal woman was canon.

As in, nearly every Greek myth with a male god and a mortal woman featured rape. They weren't coy about it.

Rape or attempted rape. There was the whole Io(?) situation where Zeus was thwarted by Io running away and Hera being done with his shit.

What's funny is only half remembering the stories of the movie and the myth. I remember asking my wife about the movie, "didn't they give him a potion to make him immortal? Because he was a demigod?" But in the movie Pain and Panic give him a potion to make him mortal.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 days ago

Yes, but how many of them will go the distance?

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm just waiting for the 'not all men' crew to show up. They should be here in an hour or two.

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What a strange comment. This was about a particularly stupid person, and your immediate assumption is that its about men. Get offline sometimes

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No! You can't make me touch grass! Last time I did I got a thistle in my hand!

[–] grue@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Not being able to tell the difference between grass and thistles only goes to show how much you need to spend more time outside.
