It's the payment processors people should be going after. Valve has some blame but to lose an entire form of payment for the vast majority of nonNSFW games on a platform is a huge deal.

You know you can just turn off showing adult games again right? I'm pretty sure that's a setting that's off by default, but it's definitely a setting.

In the Reddit thread about the rejected NSFW updates, Crimson Delight have only good things to say about Valve's handling of the situation. "I have to say the reviewer was kind and forthcoming, we didn't feel threatened or bullied in any way, and we got the feeling they were trying to do their best to help devs navigate the process," developer Frenzin writes. "But the fact of the matter is that Valve has payment processors breathing down their neck, and the rules keep getting stricter as time goes on."

"Valve isn't the problem here," Frenzin continues. "The big credit card companies are. If anything, Valve has stood up to them and pushed back. They could've simply nuked the 18+ section of Steam, but they didn't, they stuck up for developers. Obviously adult games make Valve money, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of Steam's catalogue. Silksong itself probably earned Valve more than most NSFW titles put together.

"Given that we're erogame devs, we're against any sort of censorship (as long as the content isn't sexualizing minors or nonconsensual in any way)," the developer comments. "But it's important to understand where the real problem lies, and it's not with Valve."

They simply could‘ve nuked the 18+ section of Steam.

Was this ever a demand by payment processors??? To remove games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Cyberpunk 2077? I really don‘t see how this is evidence of Valve pushing back against anything. Perhaps people need to stop brainlessly sucking off Valve‘s dick for a minute.

Valve axed smut games because it was an easy business decision requiring minimum effort. They chose the boring and predictable path of lowest resistance which is the exact opposite of what they‘re being praised for here. Of course it‘s mildly annoying for Valve and they would rather sell whatever they want but they‘re not fighting for customers here at all.

They have NOT axed smut games, which is the primary reason we are still capable of having this discussion.

Weird how the smut developers, the ones who are most affected by this situation, have a diametrically opposed view of the situation than you do.
