Has the same vibe as drawing western historical events with anime characters to me

Omg, seeing an anime character named Zues, or an English Royal, or Napoleon always makes me cringe so hard. Japan's isolationist culture makes any faithful recreation of outside cultures into an effort in futility.

There are some good exceptions, though, ig.

It's all about what media you consume. Some Japanese media don't give a fuck about historicity, and just wants to use famous names - and tbf, there are probably a number of Western works that do the same. But there are also a great number of adoring depictions, like Ad Astra and Thermae Romae; or, for a less animesque outlook, the love of Western culture and history poured into all of Hideo Kojima's work.

It's great that a lot of culture and history has survived the brutal murderous dictatorship, so far.
