It's been so funny seeing the Anubis anime girl popping up everywhere on otherwise serious sites, and people getting bizarrely upset about it
From reading that thread, I like that method of funding the project. The design is fun/unprofessional which will encourage more professional (and probably better funded) orgs will be motivated to pay to remove it.

"Pay to remove the anime girl" and of course small self-run sites and services don't care and aren't affected, while the sites who do care are the ones who can afford to cough up.
