Trees are being given to Oxfordshire residents free of charge to plant in their gardens.

The International Tree Foundation and Community Action Groups Oxfordshire are running the Garden Tree Giveaway to boost local biodiversity, support wildlife, and improve the environment.

Lucy Staveley, UK programme development lead at the foundation, said: "Native trees provide critical habitat and food sources for local wildlife, enhance garden ecosystems, and help protect against air pollution and climate change.

For people thinking about taking up this offer, make sure you have a large enough garden, and know that your insurance will increase your premiums if you have a tree within 5 meters of the property... because tree roots can damage the foundations and potentially void your insurance if you fail to inform them.
