The project, developed in partnership with veteran free software developer Rob Savoye, aims to create a fully free and open mobile platform, from the firmware to the operating system.

Regarding LibrePhone:

In the afternoon, FSF executive director Zoë Kooyman announced an exciting new project: Librephone.

Librephone is a new initiative by the FSF to bring full computing freedom to mobile computing environments. The LibrePhone Project is a partnership with Rob Savoye, a developer who has worked on free software (including the GNU toolchain) since the 1980s. "Since mobile phone computing is now so ubiquitous, we're very excited about LibrePhone and think it has the potential to bring software freedom to many more users all over the world."

No links or references to the project. Seemingly no page on the website, or on the campaigns page [yet].

Good see them move in this direction, but I'm not confident the FSF will actually get results. Somewhat more practical approaches like Ubuntu Touch using libhybris or PostmarketOS already exist and should be supported where possible.

I'm really keen that we'll be seeing new contenders to Android. I am so done with Google's constant rain of bad decisions over the years. I am drained.

I'd love to see linux become as easy to install on any phone hardware as it is with PCs now.

Installation via UBPorts is really easy. Ubuntu touch just doesn't feel usable for me, yet.

So it doesn't actually exist? I cannot find any information about it at all.

Cue my lack of surprise when they realize there are no 5g compatible basebands with open firmware, and you can't practically make your own.

I will be even less surprised that they probably won't support 5g at all.

Qualcomm seems to be in a tough spot nowadays, so maybe they'll be open to playing nice with others for once? One can dream.

I haven't found anything either. Seems like it was an event and they just now announced it there. So it makes sense that there may not be any project page or documentation yet. Which is unfortunate.

And when you search for it you see articles reporting about this with titles like "it's finally here!". So stupid. Misleading.
