i've signed up to piefed after some recent posts about lemmy devs and some communities leaving lemmy for piefed.

Eternity can't seem to connect to piefed instances.

Piefed is a different piece of software from Lemmy, and an app supporting one will not necessarily support the other. They have different APIs.
Eternity is a Lemmy-specific app, and one that has been unmaintained for around a year, so I wouldn't expect Piefed support anytime soon. I recently begrudgingly switched to a different app despite eternity being my favorite user experience, because it doesn't support image proxying (which lemmy.zip uses) and will probably not be updated again.

I've been using Thunder, which I find after tweaking the settings can be fairly close to Eternity (though not exactly the same, of course). It's been working pretty well for me. Like Eternity, FOSS with no ads/tracking, which is important to me.

Not OP, but I was in a similar situation and switched to Summit.

Voyager supports both Lemmy and Piefed.

I'm using both Eternity and Voyager, but Eternity is still my favorite with all the customizations (gestures, colors, fonts) and ease of use.

i remember trying Thunder too for some time. It was Voyager's "share as image" option that made me choose it over Thunder.

AFAIK Eternity is abandoned. Hasn't had an update in over a year.
