Hi

I’m trying to figure out which hubs are better to keep connected to Home Assistant — and which ones I can probably skip.

Right now I have several hubs: Aqara, Philips Hue, SwitchBot, and IKEA.

My question is:

Is it better to connect Hue bulbs directly to Home Assistant (using Zigbee or Matter), or to keep them connected through the example Philips Hue Bridge and then just add the bridge to HA?

I kind of like the idea that if something happens to my Home Assistant setup, the Hue Bridge would still work independently — so the lights could still be turned on manually or through the Hue app.

What’s your setup like? Which hubs do you keep, and which do you avoid connecting through?
