Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

Israel trying to pass the hospital bombing off as Palestine doing it is utterly disgusting and guarantees Netanyahu a spot in the deepest pit of Hell for all eternity, obviously, but do not forget that

a) the only reason why Westerners will believe it is because they want to believe it - they are not being brainwashed and this is not some masterful propaganda being weaved around us to turn kind-hearted people into monsters,

b) no Westerner opinions matter at all. In most Western countries there is no real anti-Israel option to vote for even if they did realize that Israel was a giant factory for crimes against humanity, and Westerners protesting against things in general almost never achieves anything (tens of millions protested for BLM in 2020 and not only did the situation not change, it got worse), and

c) the people whose opinions do matter (both the people in the region, and the leaders who aren't already Zionist compradors) already know that Israel is full of shit and that they just murdered nearly a thousand civilians in a single bomb attack.

It is despair-inducing to think that the genocidal Zionist entity is so brazenly, so smugly getting away with bullshitting this away into a cloud of confusion, as they release their metaphorical squid ink just like they did with the stupid babies story, but the propaganda and the media narrative that they are creating isn't what matters. It cannot address the fundamental contradictions ripping the country, the region, and the world apart any more than masterfully-applied makeup can fix a stab wound. It can merely obfuscate.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is still Palestine! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly update isn't coming because I'm sick and too focussed on the collapse of the Zionist entity.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

BTW, if anyone here is an active Wikipedian, feel free to contribute to the ongoing edit war over this line in the new article: "Hamas has been known to store munitions inside hospitals, mosques, and schools in the past.[12]" This is the easiest WP:SYNTH of all time since the source is not referring to the current events and thus including it is clearly attempting to make connections rather than neutrally collect reports on what is happening and what claims have been made.

e: success! As of a minute or two ago, consensus was reached to remove this line. Anticipating that the admin will unilaterally decide that it's valuable background and add it back in (since they're shoveling IDF propo into the article rn) but it's worth celebrating the small victories, I guess. Gotta keep track of the stars that exist in the overwhelming darkness of the night sky.

I’m working my way through Rashid Khalidi’s history of Palestinians in the 20th century. It’s a great read, I definitely recommend it (and so does Hakim, who I got the rec from). Don’t let what I’m about to say discourage you from reading it.

However, I caught one whiff of the author’s kinda lib brainworms. He talks about Arafat and the PLO, and suggests that while Arafat did a great job of rallying the global south to the cause of the Palestinians, he should have done more to try and speak to Americans and convince them.

This is just pure ideology. It doesn’t matter if Americans want to help the Palestinians. Hell, polls are showing that Americans aren’t really all that sympathetic to Israel anyway. But it doesn’t matter what Americans want, we’re gonna give the Israelis tens of billions in weapons and just as importantly, signs off on their plans for genocide. 95% of Americans could support the Palestinians and it wouldn’t matter. Trying to convince Americans to support a free Palestine is pointless since we don’t live in a democracy.

I should point out that Khalidi is a Palestinian- American, kinda bougie, and mentions that he personally told Arafat all this and Arafat was kinda dismissive. So he’s not really an independent observer in this anyway.

About the hospital bombing...

IDF has this degree of penetration of Hamas's communications in Gaza, but missed a broad based attack involving thousands of participants that was two years in the planning.

The US has perpetrated a global, protracted Barbarossa for nearly a century. Infants in Vietnam and Iraq and Palestine die in bombing raids so white people can have planes drop pink confetti over their gender reveal parties. Operation Al-Aqsa Flood revealed this distinction and began the process of chipping away at this vile world order we've been permitted to propagate.

Al-Jazeera: Ministry of Interior in Gaza: Injuries among displaced people who were taking shelter in the Greek Orthodox Church as a result of Israeli raids

These reports have been confirmed by the Orthodox Archdiocese of Jordan’s official FB page… ☦️🇯🇴Israel has destroyed one of the oldest Christian Churches in the world…

Lord have Mercy!

Israel bombed the Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius in Gaza, where people were taking shelter

A week ago, it was reported that the Church was targeted, which turned out to be false. Sadly, they targeted it now. It was one of the oldest churches in the world.

So Finland is currently debating if they should ban fascist and communist symbols, as one does. The ML party put out a statement (in finnish) that was pretty good all things considered, but what really got me was the end bit:

Regardless of the legality of open communist activity, communists must relentlessly defend the rights of the working class and all the oppressed and spread awareness of their interests and social status. Communists must not make concessions or compromises in order to be subservient to the rising fascism and right-wing tendencies.

The ban on communist symbols must be opposed. A legal, open communist party is the most effective way of promoting the working class class struggle and the struggle against other oppressions. The resistance must also be public.

Restricting the activities of communists has historically been a sign of a move towards fascism, and is always followed by a reduction of many other democratic rights, as well as an encroachment on the rights of workers and other oppressed people. All communists, leftists and democrats must stand together against this development.

The Communist Workers Party, together with other communist groups, will organise a demonstration/demonstrations against the banning of communist symbols. This will most probably take place at the end of October. In addition, the Communist Labour Party, together with the Finnish Communist Party, will make a statement on the subject, which will be published earlier.

emphasis mine. The Communist Labour Party is ML and the Finnish Communist Party was eurocommunist, but they've had solid line on Palestine and China which the ML party considers to be capitalist. What gets me that the smaller ML party fucking hates the communist party, but they are willing to work together on this atleast heart-sickle

Checking in on Hasan's stream and I guess they're looking at unedited footage of like 10 minutes of sustained bombing around the hospital. I mean I know it's obvious the IDF did it, more evidence I guess though.

One on hand, I feel genuinely surprised over how much support Palestine has with the public versus my expectations in the first couple days of all this.

On the other hand, the only opinions I’ve seen from “leftists” outside of this website has been to qualify any support for Palestine with “but of course Hamas are terrorists and the bad guys and need to be dealt with”. Like this idea that all Palestinian violence against Israel is self-defense is completely foreign to people who superficially support a free Palestine (in the west at least).

Idk if anyone's posted it here yet, but Josh Paul, a senior US State Department official who was in change of arms transfers, just resigned in protest over what's going been going on in Gaza. He put up a letter on his LinkedIn page, which you can read here. It's obviously coming from a lib perspective, but it is still pretty remarkable that the top gun runner for the the US empire is taking more issue with the situation than the vast majority of mainstream media or "progressive" politicians.

The United States has proposed a draft UN Security Council resolution that says Israel has a right to defend itself.

It also calls for Iran stop exporting arms to "militias and terrorist groups threatening peace and security across the region".

The draft text calls for the protection of civilians — including those who are trying to get to safety — notes that states must comply with international law when responding to "terrorist attacks", and urges the "continuous, sufficient and unhindered" delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip.

The move by the US comes after it vetoed a Brazilian-drafted text on Wednesday that would have called for humanitarian pauses in the conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas militants, to allow aid access to Gaza.

US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield justified Wednesday's veto by telling the council more time was needed for diplomacy on the ground as US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited the region.

Ms Thomas-Greenfield said the US was also disappointed Wednesday's draft did not mention Israel's right to self-defence.

Important note about the church bombing: Greek Orthodoxy and Eastern Orthodoxy are branches of the same church. Presumably this is going to drive another wedge between Israel and Russia. At this rate the genociders are going to have exactly one friend left by the end of the week.

I'm seeing a lot of people feel that the tide is gradually turning for Palestine. I think I agree. I was disheartened by the pro Israel statements initially, however once Israel fully began it's response, I've seen how many people have begun to turn against Israel and have even felt horror about Biden's response. I think this is a turning point. Only thing we have to teach is that Palestinians have the right to go on the offense.

We had a few very small pro-Palestine protests in Finland a few days ago. What I noticed was the people taking part in these were nearly 100% immigrants who by taking part in anything like this are taking huge personal risks regarding the right to stay and safety in general. There was also no information anywhere about these protest because this country has effectively kept all etcnic minorities outside of society and there really is no area where we cross paths.

The local rabbi has now announced that they will be raising charges againts these protesters for ethnic agitation and defamation.

This will likely lead to these people being deported or can be used againts them in other ways. It will surely stop all protests because even on protesting againts austerity policy or raising voices about issues within this country immigrants often have to stay out in fear of retaliation, I was told this by an international student who felt unsafe voicing their issues during the student protests here.

I got a fundraiser email from Bernie. The absolute imperial bootlicker fuck.

“ The barbarous terrorist act committed by Hamas against innocent men, women, and children in Israel was a horrific act that must be strongly condemned by the entire world. There is absolutely no justification for shooting down hundreds of young people at a music festival, killing babies in cold blood and taking hostages. In my view, the state of Israel has the absolute right to defend itself against Hamas' terrorism.

It is also clear that this attack will only embolden the extremists on both sides who see violence as the only answer. It also creates the immediate possibility of a wider war in the area with unforeseen and dangerous consequences.”

Israel Defense Forces on Twitter/X: — "From a comprehensive investigation and cross-checking of all the operational and intelligence systems, it is clear that the IDF did not attack the hospital in Gaza.

The hospital was damaged as a result of a failed launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization.

The terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip shoot indiscriminately at Israel, endangering and harming the residents of the Gaza Strip as well.

Since the beginning of the war, approximately 450 rockets have been launched by the terrorist organizations that fell in the Gaza Strip"

A group of protestors blocked the entrance to the joint Australian-US Defence facility Pine Gap, near Alice Springs in a pro-Palestinian demonstration this morning.

A dozen people holding "Free Palestine" signs were chanting prayers and pro-Palestinian statements, centred around a singular protester who had their arm stuck inside a heavy concrete barrel.

It's believed nearly 100 staff and contractors at Pine Gap were prevented from entering the site.

Protestor and Central Arrernte man Declan-Furber Gillick said the group had gathered to take a stand against the Australian government's "appalling, shameful hypocrisy" in supporting "Israeli continued domination and occupation" of Palestinian lands.

"I reject the assertion that Hamas or any Palestinian group armed or otherwise instigated this war," he said.

"These recent responses by Hamas as an organisation are … the direct response to decades and decades and decades of repression of the Palestinian people."

Northern Territory police and emergency services attended the scene, directing the protestors off the road, while firefighters used an angle grinder to break the barrel open.

The main protester has since been arrested by police.
