A still of Jack and Nina from Just Shoot Me. I forget what episode this is (just had them in my screenshots folder), but that is the actual scene.

Back when you could name a show "Just shoot me" David Spade is also awesome in it

Watched this every day after school. The average crap back then is better than some purported prestige tv today

So true. And I'm confident it's not just nostalgia making me think that.

A Just Shoot Me meme in the Year of Our Lord, 2025? You, person of intellect and culture, are to be applauded.

“Chicken pot, chicken pot, chicken pot pie!”

It's pretty great and mostly holds up.

The episode where Spade’s character tries to arrange a threesome is etched in my memory. Quite funny.

Literally my first thought every time I see David Cross in any role (past or present).

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 3 points 1 day ago

Same!

I also loved when, on David Spade’s Hollywood talk show from back in the day, Enrico Colantoni (Elliot) would appear as a kind of guest correspondent he’d always refer to Spade as “Finch.”

Yeah, mostly - or the not-so-well aged parts are at least kinda era accurate.

They mostly don't justify/normalize the sleazy shit, mostly, they do still glorify the rich & exploitation/objectification of women for massive profits.

They also mention Trump several times.

Overall still a very enjoyable show.

I get it. I almost feel like some of that was both lampshading the practice as well as exploiting it. Every time that would come up Maya would have commentary on it.

They also mention Trump several times.

Yeah, that made a modern-day rewatch kind of difficult. I intentionally skipped those parts. Having re-watched several old shows somewhat recently, sadly, the orange T-bag comes up quite a bit. Just is what it is (or was what it was?).

Also ignore my other comment. I accidentally hit submit before I had anything typed out lol.

He's mentioned a couple times in 'Cheers' mostly in the context of useless fop rich asshole, so it still works.

Until "The Apprentice" he was pretty much synonymous with rich asshole always failing upward.

Yeah, agreed on all of that.

Usually being Maya the one commenting on the rich always felt weird or an ez writing setup bcs the points could always be dispersed as a funny, shallow bit (even tho they had her say some meaningful stuff ... but ya know, it's a comedy).

I didn't mean it as a huge issue, just what it stood out for me even more on the recent-ish rewatch.
(Trumper was an issue at the time too.)
