Here is a secret for cheap E cars.

buy second hand

I am about to get a 3 year old long range audi for half the price of my KIA hatchback EV

40K is still a huge threshold.

[โ€“] rollerbang@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I came here looking for this. I get inflation and all, but I bought my car new for โ‚ฌ12k in 2017. A sedan with good gasoline range, spacious, big trunk.

With inflation this should still be below 20k today, but no...

[โ€“] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What car would that have been?

[โ€“] rollerbang@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Seat Toledo with all 4 disk brakes.

[โ€“] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'll assume this wasn't in Germany?

[โ€“] rollerbang@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You are correct... What is it with price in Germany? The model I bought wasn't even a base model, that one was 9.990,00 EUR.

Link to Seat.de Toledo in 2017

Car prices and quality vary from country to country.

Car prices in Germany are nuts.

You can get a new EV for under 30k these days. ICE cars are still cheaper but if you consider the total cost of ownership, they're pretty competitive.

Also no car on the list uses LFP batteries, show~~e~~s a lag behind China.

Stellantis is absolute dogshit. Per example, the C3 is a combustion car with an electric motor (and a battery). It has no electric perks. I hated it. Electric cars need pure electric platforms.

[โ€“] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would never buy a Stellantis car. Stellantis is the bargain bin of the automotive industry and you get what you pay for.

[โ€“] neo2478@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

I don't know. I've had a Fiat 500 electric for almost four years, and I love it!

[โ€“] B0rax@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Same with the Mercedes EQA, EQB and EQC.

[โ€“] eutampieri@feddit.it 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Interesting! Can you explain what you missed and what youโ€™d have needed in the C3? Why canโ€™t you build an electric car alongside an ICE car and have a good EV?

[โ€“] Dequei@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

No oneโ€‘pedal driving, no regeneration settings (actually there arenโ€™t settings for most features). The D for drive is on a lever you pull backward and R is forward. When D was selected the car crept forward like a combustionโ€‘engine vehicle without pressing the pedal. Fake and poor range estimate. Slow charging speed. I donโ€™t remember everything, but I know I hated driving it compared to my Kia EV3.

EVs need a dedicated electric platform so they can have a larger battery, a frunk, and no central transmission hump inside the cabin.
Edit: A dedicated electric platform also means software built for electric vehicles (not shared with an ICE platform).

[โ€“] eutampieri@feddit.it 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks! Iโ€™ve never driven an EV and it shows

[โ€“] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure you CAN do it because from everything I see, the new BMW i cars (so not the 3 or 8) are pretty great?

[โ€“] MrFloppy@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why not "Smart EQ forfour" for ~25T EUR in the List?

[โ€“] basxto@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 17 hours ago

Iโ€™m voting for kโ‚ฌ

[โ€“] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think that's not in production any more, so if it's available new they'll just be selling off some left over inventory.

[โ€“] MrFloppy@feddit.org 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

You're probably right. And the new Versions (2, 3 and 4 in future) are much more expensive. I really hate it.
