Do the screw off caps remain attached to the bottle in Europe?

[–] chaotic_disorganizer@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago (7 children)

Yup, new laws for "enviromental reasons". It is the most horrible idea ever. It doesnt stay open, its in the way, and it doesnt even prevent you from just ripping it off and throwing away the lid. Another law just so the higer-ups can pat themselves on the back and say they did something for the planet.

People are so bothered by these caps and I don't get it. I wish people had gone as hard against chat control as they're going against these fucking caps.

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 25 points 4 days ago

The least inconvenient thing imaginable and yet has caused so much outrage!

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 9 points 4 days ago

But that would require them to think.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 days ago

For real. I love not looking for the bottle cap on the ground. I just bend the cap a bit further and it doesn't get in my way.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 33 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Bend it back further. When it gets to 180 degrees, it latches into place and doesn't spring back.

[–] hanke@feddit.nu 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But then what do I direct my rage towards

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 6 points 4 days ago

People walking by in the street. It's a great way to meet new people.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Sometimes. Some better, some worse. Shitty all over.

[–] Sheldan@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

It makes perfect sense in my opinion and rarely presented itself as inconvenient.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

And it's also an issue for the disabled (motor abilities). It's easy making a mess all over with these fucking caps.

[–] BlackVenom@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Silliest take ever. As someone where these aren't, they're pretty awesome and wish we had them.

[–] ArfArfWoof@europe.pub 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Plus the caps are from a different kinda plastic, so they have to be recycled separately.

[–] brap@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The point is that the cap is now recyclable, which is why it’s attached.

[–] MumboJumbo@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Plastic recycling is crap though, even it can be recycled, there's only a number of times that it can be done. There needs to be a move toward aluminum, glass, and compostable bottles.

[–] Emi@ani.social 4 points 4 days ago

That's what I keep saying, if they really wanted to reduce waste they would just put everything in glass/aluminium and ideally just put things into your own glass jars. There's very few places that do that sadly.

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world -1 points 3 days ago

I think you're just stupid

[–] AstaKask@lemmy.cafe 10 points 4 days ago

Yes. Weirdos are extremely upset by this for some reason.

[–] bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Remember when can ring-pulls detached?

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Ah yes there were so many sliced-up bare feet in the beach sand before 1982.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

If you pulled the tab off and bent the center back, you'd be left with a tiny Millennium Falcon.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

You could use the tab to propel the ring. It was great.

[–] brap@lemmy.world -5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Wait, this stupid idea isn’t the standard everywhere?

[–] brap@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The stupid idea being the attached lid I mean.

[–] bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

The US, at least. Doesn't do this.
