There are many recent Chinese companies popping up that sell cheap smoke alarms that "work with Home Assistant" and I've been seeing them starting to be recommended in this subreddit, especially as Nest Protects are expiring and folks are looking for similar features. Before buying an incredibly important safety device for your home, please make sure you fully verify that they meet the certifications for your country. For most of us, this will be UL/ETL.

Below is a recent article that calls out Amazon and other marketplaces for allowing these to be sold. They claim to attempt to verify UL certification, but are clearly not able to keep up with the listings- these companies often have many similar product lines. Just because it's sold on Amazon/Walmart marketplaces does not make them safe.

Stay safe!
