On Saturday in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, a pro-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and anti-Muslim hate rally organized by racist Jake Lang was abruptly aborted after Lang was swarmed by local residents and counterprotesters. The robust community response to the rally underscores the unpopularity of Trump’s “mass deportation” policies and attacks on immigrants.

Minneapolis, Minnesota folks have proven themselves on the world stage for dealing with the fascist felon and his cronies. I expect all other states have taken careful notes.

Meanwhile, racist fascist Jake Lang has earned the brainless and dubious distinction of an entry in the history books. Notably with the image of him gripped in fear as he's surrounded by Americans.

While most Minnesotans expressed joy at Lang’s aborted rally, fascists around the world fumed that police did not do a better job of protecting one of their own and lobbied for Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act, a threat he made last Thursday in response to community resistance to ICE kidnapping operations.

Here is the link of him on January 6th beating cops

Ha, not so big and tough are you?

People like Jake Lang, talk a tough game, but they're secretly pussies underneath.

[–] kata1yst@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 hours ago

Don't besmirch the good name of pussies like that.

Just one? It's a start.

As a none-native speaker, please help me parse this article:

a pro-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and anti-Muslim hate rally organized by racist Jake Lang

A racist organized a rally that is

  • pro-immigration
  • (anti?) ICE
  • anti-Muslim hate (so essentially pro-Muslim?)

Why? I'd expect him to do the opposite.

Prior to the event, Lang promised he would burn a Quran on the steps of Minneapolis City Hall,

That sounds distinctly not anti-Muslim hate. So is it a [anti-Muslim] [hate rally]? Then I am not sure why it'd be pro-immigration at the same time?!

Pro-ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement),

Anti-muslim,

hate-rally.

I can see the potential ambiguity for a non-native speaker with the articles phrasing.

[–] einkorn@feddit.org 3 points 1 hour ago

Now that you mention it ... of course! Thanks!

[–] kata1yst@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It's saying the rally was in favor of ICE and opposed to immigration and Muslims.

[–] einkorn@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

Yeah, but then why does it say "pro-immigration"? To be a proponent of something means supporting it. And those people hardly support people immigrating to their country.

[–] kata1yst@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago

It is poorly phrased.

a pro-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and anti-Muslim hate rally organized by racist Jake Lang

ICE is short for "Immigration and Customs Enforcement".

The next part is even phrased worse.

Anti-Muslim hate-rally would be a better phrasing, but "hate rally" is a weird phrase already. A good editor would have dropped "hate" from the phrase entirely.

So, rephrased: "a pro-ICE and Anti-Muslim rally"

[–] PoastRotato@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

The "immigration" in there belongs to "Immigration and Customs Enforcement", which is the full name of ICE. So it's saying that he's pro-ICE, or pro-[Immigration and Customs Enforcement]. The hyphen is a bit confusing there.

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

“Immigration and Customs Enforcement” —abbreviated as “ICE” — is the organization that he supports. He’s not in favor of immigration, he’s in favor of the organization that traditionally enforces immigration laws, in other words anti-immigration.

Also worth noting that this organization’s mission has been skewed from simply enforcing the laws into “kidnapping people with tan skin or or who have an accent” and generally being a modern version of the Nazi “brownshirts”. So that is what he is supporting.

[–] BCOVertigo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Your error was just parsing him as pro "I." when he is actually pro "I.C.E."

He is in favor of immigration enforcement, not immigrants.

  1. Pro-immigration and Pro-ICE
  2. Anti-Muslim. Burning their Quran is definitely part of that.
  3. He’s a racist.
  4. Pro-immigration, Pro-ICE, racism, Anti-a Muslim are all from the same mindset that drives all right wingers in the US.
[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 hour ago

Anti-immigration.
Pro-ICE.
Anti-Muslim.

So just a general piece of shit.

[–] einkorn@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago

Pro-immigration [...] drives all right wingers in the US.

I am not sure, I fully understand. Because being a proponent of something means you support it. So pro-immigration people are in favor of others immigrating to their country, and that's certainly not what the fascist want? They want immigrants, illegals, aliens (whatever they call them) out of the country so they are anti-immigration.
