The Soviets were right, every Nazi should have been put to the wall. Now, barely 100 years later the world is drowning in Nazis.

Nazism isn’t hereditary, they are created from a combination of scarcity and humans’ innate desire for power.

Put a thousand people on a space colony with all the science and tech to maintain a lush utopia where every human need is met. Come back in 300 years and that society would be broken into classes, rich and poor, rampant with oligarchs, plutocrats, fascists, and racists.

If humans were really like that innately then society would not be an emergent property of our species. Cooperation is the core of human interaction. Just don't invite any capitalists and your space colony isolationist utopia and it will probably focus more on resources and surviving in space rather than arbitrary values.

Negatype people are like quarks: they pop into existence when the conditions are right. An example we’ve all seen is a normal generous family member who suddenly turns into a rabid racist maga supporter. You could start the colony with 1000 bernie bros and the result would be the same, just maybe take 1000 years instead of 300 years.

Those assholes dont pop out of no where. Material conditions form them when they perceive their conditions are threatened. If your utopia is a utopia everyone's needs will be met and these people will never exist in the first place.

In my opinion you can't meet everyones needs. The moment a desired person chooses a different romantic partner, you've got grounds to start wars.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 1 points 3 weeks ago

A utopia would obviously have a way to handle conflict resolution peacefully. I'd imagine the citizenry also would not have the means to start wars over lost love interests.

I suspect it's about population size. A small community would probably be mostly fine.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

That's a bleak view of humanity. Would you do that? Would you be greedy and strive for power?

Or is it just other people who suck and you're better than them?

[–] RockBottom@feddit.org 0 points 3 weeks ago

It was caused by the odd chance marriage of roman imperialism and monotheism.

Even Russia has Nazis. I don't think you can eradicate it like smallpox

[–] Agrivar@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

Can't hurt to try!

Omg people are painfully stupid

This is an incorrect interpretation of the poll. The AfD would be the largest party in the Bundestag, but that doesn't mean they would form a government. After coalition discussions, it could easily be CDU/CSU leading the way.

Edit: To be clear, this kind of support for the AfD is a really bad sign, but it doesn't mean they'd form the government.

[–] Bademantel@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Technically true but have you seen or heard CXU politicians lately? It is plausible that they would be willing to form a coalition with those idiots in 2029. I would love to be wrong on that assumption.

Propaganda works. Plain and simple.

Only in one direction though, sadly.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Populism appeals to emotion.

We can refute feelings with facts, but that doesn’t make their feelings disappear.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

We need to drown out their propaganda with our own and highlight the real dangerous minorities: billionaires.
