Can I see posts from mastodon users on Lemmy?

I know you can do the inverse and see Lemmy posts and comments in mastodon

hmm. i dunno if you can but it would make a lot more sense to do it that way. seeing Lemmy stuff on mastodon sucks because comments are individual and don't make sense out of context.

That's a shame. That's why I was hoping it would work, I tried subscribing to Lemmy communities in mastodon and it worked but was a bit of a mess

Try out kbin, it's geared for Lemmy and mastodon in one place.

Aww but I like the Ivory app :( I was hoping for the same thing others are here—subscribe to a Lemmy community and have posts show up in my Masto feed, then click to see comments.

It’s worth opening a GitHub issue for. Maybe it isn’t that hard to do. Might even look at the code myself to see…

At the moment, you can't subsribe to individual users on Lemmy, so there's no way to really consume posts from Mastodon, but I am pretty sure if a Mastodon user replies to a Lemmy comment, it will be visible on Lemmy. Problem is, as Knighthawk points out, Lemmy threads are kinda unintelligible on Mastodon. I suspect this will improve with time.

Yeah it would be cool to be able to only have it show lemmy posts and not comments in your timeline, but that makes sense it's not there yet. That seems like it would be a tall order development-wise

Hrmm. Lets see. I've sub'd to @lemmy_support@lemmy.ml from my mastodon account. If this works, I should see THIS comment show up in my feed.

[–] DispleasedDeacon829@beehaw.org 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That definitely works. I was able to follow Lemmy communities from my mastodon account, but every comment on every post shows up in your timeline in chronological order so it fills up your feed fast, that's why I was hoping the opposite worked and I could see posts from mastodon users inside Lemmy, but couldn't get it to work

I don't use mastodon, but it would be cool if they found a way to display so that the top level topic would be a tweet and the comments would be like reply tweets to it (I don't know what the mastodon equivalent to tweet is)

[–] 3sframe@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Mastodon tweets used to be called a "toot" but they changed it to "publish" after the Twitter migration. I miss calling them toots. Those were the good ol' days.

[–] Garrathian@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Well now I have to call them toots, way more fun haha

[–] SemioticStandard@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Literally found this post as I was searching for that exact thing. My Masto feed is a MESS if I follow a Lemmy community. I only want the top level links to be displayed, and if I tap on that, then see and interact with all the comments. Seems like there should be a way to do this…

[–] Garrathian@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah they definitely need to do something to make that federation a bit more pleasant haha

[–] DivergentHarmonics@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

They call it "toot" i think. :-)

[–] bdonvr@lemmy.rogers-net.com 1 points 2 years ago

I think if you put the URL of their profile into the search bar it will probably show up.

Edit: no, it'll only show any comments that mastodon profile has made on lemmy.
