Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I'm surprised I didn't see anything like this yet with the release of some of the Epstein Files.

Years ago, I heard the superbowl was one of the most important events to... traffic people. It makes sense because a lot of people are traveling internationally to one city. No one is going to question big families traveling together or an uncle traveling with many young ladies. Hotels can be reserved by entire entities who can trade/sell people floor by floor. The cover is that it's a party. It's terrible and terribly stream lined...

What if all big sports events are used as a distraction to move a great number of people from one slave trader to another?

Edit: changed "children" to "people", updated title

Who needs cover now. Ice does it out in the open.

It's so overwhelming... We can be there for our families, our neighbors, but this national/global scale... At least we're talking about how we don't like it? Lol that's not enough. I need to become a lawyer or something

The F1 races world wide are infamous for human trafficking and sexual assaults. Enough that the City of Montreal funded a study about it.

Dang... "Infamous" omg I have never been in the racing scene. Thank you for sharing this study ... I'm so surprised about the 32 PAGE STUDY ABOUT WOMEN'S SAFETY phew! I didn't expect it to be so through, but this has been a problem a long time.

That’s a really good question. I wonder if there’s any data supporting this?

There's a fair amount of info online about human trafficking during the world cup sorry don't have time to find info now but a web search points to lots of stuff: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=human+trafficking+world+cup+football

Thank you for this starting point. I don't have the stomach to read first hand experiences rn, but I'm sure there are many stories from "freed" enslaved people.

Rule 2 is that the entire thought must be in the title. Also, be mindful of rule 3, no politics.

Would you be able to update the title?

Thank you for holding this safe place.

I appreciate you telling me the rules directly to keep post up and keep the general discussion open.

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Thanks for the update!

I'd say human trucking isn't political. letting human traffickers in government it's a different issue

Downvoted for trying to politely keep the rules relevant. This is a bad look, so I got you back to at least one. I've never been a mod, but this is the least heavy handed attempt I've seen on enforcing the rules.

I guess I can't please everyone.

I would like the community to be a place for respectful discussion so in general that's how I try to moderate.

This community is my first experience being a mod so I'm sure there are better ways to do it.

I think you're killing it homie.

The trafficking is associated with the incredible demand for Prostitutes.

I have heard about the spike in trafficking that occurs associated with the Super Bowl for decades.

That makes sense. More demand where there are more people. It is one of the oldest professions after all.
