Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

It's not just buying their products either. It's using their products, even the ones that are free. Every view on YouTube and every Google search supports Google. Every time you use Facebook Marketplace or WhatsApp or Instagram it supports Meta. Every time you browse Amazon without buying, or use any service hosted on AWS, it helps Amazon.

We need to cut out these corporations as thoroughly as we can, by not even giving them our traffic.

It goes beyond that. Word out mouth is HUGE in this day and age. Not just talking with people at work or your friends and family. Interacting with strangers online is engagement. If you bootleg an Amazon Original and then go online to talk about it, it doesn't matter if you tell people you torrented it. All that matters is that there is engagement. Maybe others will torrent it, too, but just as likely someone will watch it that may never have otherwise because of the conversation you had, and they may not torrent it. Then they go off and tell some other people who tell some other people, and now that one time your torrented a movie has generated an amount of money greater than $0.

We have to completely cut all of these companies out of our lives if we are going to fix anything.

Deleted my Microsoft account this morning. I'm 100% committed to Linux, Nextcloud and all the alternatives to Microslop

You're missing a second "they fuck you over" edge from the big tech vertex back to yours.

I think there is $1.39 going to apple for disk space that I do not use other than I think my pictures are saved to. I really need to get my self hosted Nextcloud finally figured out, and/or some self hosted picture thing. I decided to pay for some Canadian cloud host for Nextcloud but self hosting would probably be better for me.

How can you be fine with hosting your pics in ANY cloud at all? I totally consider those highly private and worthy of protection from prying eyes. No judgment though, just curious.

That was just the default that comes with iPhones. I am planning on getting another small nvme drive for one of my pi 5’s and hosting it there or maybe a small ssd.

I've not given a direct cent to Amazon, Facebook, or Windows in over ten years.

Apple? I have a iPhone 12 Mini. I dunno what my next phone will be, this one is still doing okay for now. But, probably, it will be either an Apple or an Android. I don't think I'm ready to try any of the other offerings, but since I only need basic functionality, I'll be looking at what's available when the time comes, with an eye toward avoiding Apple and Google.

Look into GrapheneOS. They should have OEM partners soon that will help them with hardware.
