17.2 public beta is perfect. I’m running it on my iPhone 15 pro max, 15 Plus and iPad Pro. All very smooth. 17.2 has noticeably better battery life compared to the initial 17 public release, got better in 17.1 but 17.2 is really nice. Even has the new Journal stock app from Apple, which I have to say is very nice.

Make sure you have the latest update iOS 17.1 because it includes a bunch of fixes. What version are you running? My phone did run a little hotter before 17.0.3 was released which fixed that issue. Also make sure you’re not low on storage that could also affect performance.

My iPhone Xs still works great with latest OS. Not all phones are created equal. Sometimes a phone just works great through lots of wear and tear and other times, one drop of the device will cause weird things to happen.

Typing is trash at moments. Make sure you’re on 17.1 and if you are, try using Gboard.

It’s not really a solution but it works

Apple mobile devices always experience a temporary drop in performance immediately after an OS update/upgrade while the operating system rebuilds caches and indexes, and downloads and installs app updates. Naturally, while the device is busy doing this, battery performance will also be impacted. This typically lasts from an hour or two to a day or two depending on the age and speed of the device and network bandwidth, after which performance returns to normal. The overwhelming majority of posts I see online complaining about iOS devices supposedly being slowed down or batteries draining abnormally fast by iOS updates are in this category.

Whenever Apple releases a major upgrade for older iOS devices, major new features and functionality are included, which means the device can do more things than it could before. And whether it’s a major upgrade or just an update, known security vulnerabilities are patched. Naturally new features come with a cost, and that cost is generally that the device must work a little harder to do the extra work. However, at the same time, Apple is always refining features to make devices work more efficiently.

Even with older devices such as the first-generation iPhone SE, iOS 15 can be safely installed. Safari gets faster and the overall performance is not slowed down by the latest system.

Typically, you can expect a major iOS upgrade to slow some operations down just a little bit, but also speed up some operations as well as add many new features you didn’t have before. On really old devices that are near end of life, the speed decreases may be more noticeable than on newer devices. But in general it all works out to a net benefit in real world use.

still on my 11 Pro from 2019, and after replacing the battery, it runs as new with the iOS17.

BUT iOS17 RUINED all my previous and new photos — they silently disabled EDR on photos taken with this phone for whatever reason…

Restart your phone and see if that helps. Base 14 as well, been running the 17 beta and official release with no issue. I'm on 17.1 and the only bug I've encountered is my status bar icons disappearing for a bit once, otherwise it's buttery smooth.

Sorry to hear this is how you’re introduced to apple. I have no idea what’s going on but in my recollection there has never been this many issues going on at once, so this hopefully a fluke they’ll fix quick. I’m on 12 pro max and also have heating issues on iOS 17, pokemon go was apparently one of the main culprits.

The exact same here. I bought the base 14 as my first ever iPhone and it worked great at first. But ever since I updated to iOS 17 I noticed a lot of lag, even more than on my previous phone (an Samsung a52s). The most annoying thing I’ve noticed was the lag experienced when typing really fast and Spotify while connected to my PS4.

that is definitely not normal, my iphone xr in ios 17 works smoothly.

Why does finger burn when I touch the screen when charging

I am in a 15 Pro Max, this is my first ever iPhone, I’m on IOS 17.1, compared to my Pixel 6 Pro, I notice keyboard lag the most. The keyboard doesn’t feel as responsive, the haptic feels delayed too when typing. But overall it’s decently quick, I have definitely noticed random hitches in the App Store though mainly

typing definitely feels more laggy to me. And I have also haptic feedback on on the keyboard and it feels slow.. it vibrates but like...slower
