I dropped my iPhone 12 in my dog's water bowl for about 4 seconds. I immediately took it out, powered it off patted it dry with a towel, and stuck it in a box of rice.

Everywhere I've looked had different answers do what I did, plop it in front of a fan, let it just air dry and one even said remove the battwry.

Will what I've done work or am I just fucked?

EDIT: took it out of rice and popped a packet of silica gel under the charging port. Thanks everyone for the advice.

The rice thing is actually a myth. Silica gel is effective but it should be in a ziploc bag with the silica gel, not in open air, as it’s more effective in an air locked environment.

I used to wash my 12 Pro Max in the sink with antibacterial soap 😂, you will be fine!

I straight up walked into a pool with mine. It’s fine they’ve come a long way since the beginning of smart phones

Don’t do anything special, but don’t charge it for a couple hours.

You’ll be fine.

Just admit it. You dropped it in the toilet.

I wish that was the case it would have been bad luck but it was just my own stupidity. We keep the dog's water bowl under the light switch in the kitchen. I had my hands full and tried to press the switch without looking and ended up dropping the phone. For the life of me, I can't understand what compelled my family and me to keep the dog bowl under the switch.

The iPhone 12 is originally rated for a maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes. Even if the seals/gaskets of ports and switches deteriorate over time, a few seconds in a dog bowl should not be an issue. Just dry it off and shake the water out of the lightning port before recharging.
