The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was initially published in 1954 . Teletubbies's first episode, Ned's Good Bike, was first aired in 1997. Therefore, LOTR could not have been a Teletubbies knockoff, because LOTR was first. It is, then, reasonable to assume that Teletubbies is a LOTR knockoff.
Time travel was invented in 2137, since then it has widely been accepted among academics that linear progression of standard time is not sufficient to determine the context with which an event takes place.
While this may be true, those same academics have also agreed that linear progression must be employed until the origination date of the request is after 4.7.2137 (or, simply, Post Time Travel / PTT). Well, LOTR books existed before the teletubbies. So I think it's the other way around.
Someone accidentally mistook a full strip of LSD as one dose just after he finished reading the books, and saw this weird twisted form of what was fresh in his memory, with weird shapes and bright colors, and got the idea to recreate what he saw on film. Others mistook it as a toddler program.
I think my hypothesis is much more likely.
