We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Hey r/DataHoarder community,

I'm on the fence about a decision and could really use some wisdom from the veterans here. I'm eager to build up my Synology setup, but I'm wondering: should I wait for the Black Friday deals, or dive in now?

I'm currently based in Germany, so if that plays a role in terms of the deals we get here, please do factor it in. I know many of you have been through several Black Friday seasons. In your experience, especially considering my location, is there genuine value to be found during these sales for drives? Or is it more hype than savings?

On the flip side, I'm itching to get my Synology fully operational and delve into its capabilities as soon as possible. If there is little to spare on Black Friday deals I want to start my NAS journey already now.

I'd appreciate any insights or past experiences you can share. Thanks in advance!

Cheers from Germany! ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช
