It's seems right that we should have a local community to help us all with PieFed

Hello everyone,

I’m new to the Fediverse and loving it so far! I’m trying out all the client apps on my iPhone and I ran into an issue where the latest posts for some communities will not show up on the client apps, but they do show up on the PieFed web app. Screenshots below will show what I mean. The filters in both screenshots are set to show newest posts.

Screenshot from Mlem. Same result on Voyager, Interstellar, and Blorp as well. “Newest” post here is from 3 days ago.

This seems to happen only with some Lemmy communities and most work fine on the client apps. So is the PieFed web app just superior in some way that it can more reliably fetch new posts while the client apps miss some stuff? Hoping someone with some technical knowledge can chime in.

Welcome! First time I see this mentioned, hopefully other people will be able to help.

Did you refresh manually?

By the way, in your mobile app, do the posts age linearly? Perhaps the sort is not being set correctly or something.

Refreshing manually does nothing. To double check I set the filer to Top 1 Day, which causes the feed to come up empty which indicates to me that the posts somehow aren’t making it to the client app for some reason.

Blorp dev here. Thanks for trying my app!

It’s not too uncommon for those top filters to show up empty. It was confusing enough, that I recently added a hint to Blorp to try suggest you switch filters when that happens.

I’m not sure if that’s the original issue from your post, but as far as post sort goes, I’m trying to make it more intuitive.

Hi! Thanks for creating Blorp! I love that there’s people out there making these apps out trying to make the internet a better place. Here’s the original issue I had: https://piefed.social/post/1871929 I tried switching the filter and it still behaves the same. The interesting thing is that it seems to only be an issue for that specific community. Other communities from the same server are working fine.

Looks like it was an app issue judging by Rimu’s comment. Hopefully it’s fixed in all the apps.

Looking at the commits, it looks like some things were being cached that shouldn't be, leading to stale responses from the api.
