How many drive bays do you actually want? 4? 8? 36? What is your budget?
Data Hoarder
We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
2-4 and tryna to keep it under $100
You want a disk shelf. They plug to your server via a HBA (probably set in IT / JBOD mode) via a sas cable. They usually have 24 bays.
the Silverstone ones heave a pretty good build quality. Yhe other ones are a hit or a miss.
E.g. FS303-12G
Can anyone reccomend me a SATA hub
If you mean hub like a USB hub for SATA... Please don't lol.
docking bay for more HDDs?
QNAP has a couple SAS ones that fit the bill
USB would slow them down way too much for my liking.
USB 3.0 is fast enough for at least 2 HDDs each lol
