Not really news. This has been going on for a long time. It doesn't help that we have foreign buyers holding empty, or mostly empty properties. It is a unit of housing that should be in the buying/rent pool. I personally know 2 people (and I know very few people in BC because I'm from another province) that rent a basement suite and 3000+sq ft main house is vacant because owners moved back overseas once suite was filled. Been over 2 years empty. Vacancy tax does nothing, especially when a family friend retrieves mail and fakes the vacancy report.

It never was, but now "poor" is pushing into new frontiers in terms of income needed for base necessities

Oh man, this sounds bad. How much of a fighting chance would 2 immigrants have in Vancouver working entry level jobs? Asking for myself.

I’d honestly recommend moving further out if the said entry level jobs are available outside of Vancouver proper. Even Surrey makes a huge difference to quality of life if you’re not required to head downtown to work every day.
