It is not a blockade. Idiots. So if there is no blockade, it is not "amid US blockade".

A blockade is a specific legal thing, an act of war. Where you stop all ships using military means. The US is using legal means to make it very expensive for countries like Mexico to send oil, which is not a blockade.

So it is not surprising that the US will not stop these Russian ships.

Apparently it is a blockade

The blockade, which came into effect following the US abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in January, has been decried by Cuban officials as “cruel”

The article lies, as I clearly stated above. Citing the article, without any further proof than the authority of the article itself, does not disprove that...

If it was a blockade, then why do the Russian ships go though?

Where is the US declaration of blockade? There isn't one. Because there is no blockade.

I wonder how hard it is to seal up a tactical nuke so that it can be submerged in crude oil for a few weeks.

Now ... the last time Russia had ships near Cuba, and was at odds with the US, someone far more level-headed was in the White House.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago

level headed? you mean that imbecile JFK? that same imbecile that put illegal blockade on cuba in the first place, haha he deserved what he got

There's a reason Russia (and soviet union) largely has positive image in the third world.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

[–] theolodis@feddit.org 5 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

A broken clock might be showing the correct time twice a day, but you wouldn't know if you'd only have that broken clock, because it's broken and useless.

Agreed; Russia is a terrorist state that has committed atrocities in Ukraine, interfered in the affairs and territorial integrity of its neighbors, and denied its own citizens basic human rights.

In this rare instance, however, its foreign policy goal of opposing U.S. foreign policy has the side benefit of disrupting one of Trump's blatant violations of international law. Not because Russia itself cares for a second about international law, though.

But then that time would be now. All time would be now.

Isn't Cuba a second world country? Or do you mean 3rd world in the colloquial sense?

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

colloquial sense, yes

[–] kunaltyagi@programming.dev 2 points 14 hours ago

Pretty sure colloquial sense

It would be nice if Ukraine could seize it.

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Is this how Ukraine supporters generally think? That it’s good to starve out Cuba?

[–] Cypher@aussie.zone -4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Fuel is expensive and Ukraine needs lots of it due to a war Russia started.

I don’t care what the tankers destination is.

All Russian tankers should be seized and either directed to Ukraine or the profits from the sale should be taken.

[–] theolodis@feddit.org 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I hope you'll get well soon, you seem to have a bad concussion.

[–] Cypher@aussie.zone -4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You think its strange to seize the assets of a country you are at war with?

It seems you don't know much about war.

[–] theolodis@feddit.org 2 points 3 hours ago

I think it's strange that you can not see that getting Oil to Cuba to end the collective punishment caused by the US blockade is a good thing.

You're basically saying that the money a serial rapist donated to orphans should be seized and given to the victims. Which in theory might be valid, but in this case is just showing that you have no heart, just like the rapist.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world -1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

what a weird thing to say for your cause, surely this will not make people salty about you

[–] Cypher@aussie.zone -1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Why would it concern me if people were salty about me?

You lot seem to support Russia so to borrow a phrase, your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you people cheer.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I support Russia when they send crude oil to Cuba, Yes

That doesnt mean I support all of their actions

I feel sad for ukraine as all of their supporters online are boderline nazi

[–] Cypher@aussie.zone 0 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I don’t see you protesting Russia selling wheat it has stolen from Ukraine so I’m going to assume you’re a kremlin troll.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world -1 points 5 hours ago

whatever helps you sleep at night
