Without Blu-Ray, the best quality releases wouldn't be available to pirate in the first place. Digital 4K releases often have lower bitrates, for instance.

Blu ray isnt even 4k as I understand. Its 1080.

It's definitely in 4K, they're usually on Blu-Ray triple layer discs which gets them ~100GB of storage

Quad layer (~150GB) discs can be a viable alternative for long term archival storage
