He's like the TE version of Trey Lance but he's actually good.

same way shaedon sharpe was a top 10 draft prospect without playing a minute of college ball

[–] slantboi420@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Say the line!

[–] _AmericanPoutine@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Take a glance at Dawson Knox's college stats, then his pro stats

[–] joedirt87@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Freak basketball athlete that played one year of football at a school known for producing great tight ends.

[–] CaptainCrockpot@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because Antonio Gates paved the way. They saw what he became and decided to take a shot on him.

[–] fiendzone@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The mini-trend of drafting basketball players.

Wait until this guy finds out about Matt Cassell

By being an elite athlete with size. Plus when the Saints drafted him he got to play behind Jeremy Shockey for a year to further learn the position.

[–] Designer_Head_1024@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same way gates did it before him

[–] Enterprise90@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He was a lottery ticket. A guy who is 6'7, 250 pounds, that can move like that. Plus, he ran a 4.56. Defenses just didn't know how to handle him on that Saints' offense. You didn't see guys that massive lined up in the slot too often.

i believe wikipedia was created for this

i just assume it would be an easier reference than a forum that hates things even a week old

[–] Section643@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can’t coach height

[–] BoredPoopless@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Have you seen his biceps?

[–] Quirky-Lawyer-3409@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Off the charts athleticism and upside. I recall he was seen as drafted slightly on the early side, but after the second round teams will start turning to upside picks

[–] kta54321@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because of huge

[–] ronmsmithjr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Spent too much time fucking around with basketball, probably.

[–] liquid-swords93@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jordan mailata, now one of the best o linemen in the league, was drafted without ever having played football at any level

The Vikings drafted Moritz Bohringer out of a German football league cuz he was 6’5” 240 and ran a 4.4. Crazy measurables will get people drafted

[–] tripyep@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bro, he played basketball

[–] Kelefane41@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I bet LeBron James could have been a very good TE in the NFL if he had focused on Football instead . He was good in high-school.

[–] chef_pasta_way@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] lostshell@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Teams seem to draft DNA moreso than tape.

6'6 and ran 4.5. He's getting drafted.

[–] slackator@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How the fuck did Antonio Gates go pro with 0 receptions?

How the fuck did Jordan Mailata go pro without ever having seen the sport?

The world may never know the answer to these questions...oh wait, scouting, scouting is obvious answer to the question

[–] AhandWITHOUTfingers@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Heard he played basketball.

[–] redden34@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Kyle long only started 6 games at Oregon before going 20th overall. He only played juco before that

Someone took a huge gamble on him. That’s kind of how every draft pick is after round 1.

[–] y_wont_my_line_block@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You have to remember that Mickey Loomis does what Mickey Loomis wants.

[–] yoshigronk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Physical attributes.

[–] JlIlK@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

6'7 270, 4.5 40, 39" vert

[–] BadgerSauce@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tall and athletic

[–] Clovdyx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He played four years of basketball.

[–] Imaginary_wizard@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Pats offered him a contract as an undrafted rookie the year before he went back for his last year to play football.

Because 6'6" guys who can run a 4.5 are always going to at least pique the interest of some team or another.

[–] Nickmurray21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Exactly. Just look at em.

[–] brajohns@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

'grats on spelling "pique" correctly

[–] Thelife1313@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Didn’t antonio gates barely play football? He played basketball in college and was signed undrafted.

nfl scouts know a lot more than rando chads do.

[–] RuiHachimura08@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“… TE version of Trey Lance but he’s actually good.”

So not the TE version of Trey Lance. Or just not Trey Lance at all.

lol.

[–] Aerolithe_Lion@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Try looking up Jordan Mailata’s college career

[–] nope96@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He's a freak athlete the Saints thought they could refine with some experience

They were right

He had what you call “the goods”

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] RipLogical4705@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

2nd in receiving TDs on Miami that season despite only 17 receptions

RAS of 9.62 so even for the NFL he was a pretty elite athlete

3rd round pick is surprising tho, but it was pretty late in the third

[–] DJ_SlapNasty@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wait until you hear about Jordan Mailata

[–] TheMandoAde888@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Potential over production.

[–] johnnybags44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

When the Saints were practicing in Miami before Super Bowl 44 the staff called asked UM coaches which of their prospects was most pro ready and they all said Graham. Pretty cool story.
