I buy the Pro Max models so that I can shit on other people using the peasant iphones.
I’m pretty sure I can get my work done even with a base iPhone 13

Yes iOS does not reinvent the wheel . Ever
I only want the Cameras, USB-C and Log Video recording.
Passing my 11 Pro to my wife.
I upgraded for the max model for better battery life and better screen. That is all :D I’m very happy
I observed this too after upgrading from an XS to a 15 Pro Max. It's just a bigger, faster version of my old phone. I definitely could have settled for a 15 Plus, but ProMotion is so damn nice.
The phone is a mature product these days. The vast majority of people don’t but a new car every year and then are disappointed to discover it’s nearly identical to their previous car.
yeah apps just get optimized to run on the newer phones making the older phones feel slower. your every day apps will eventually be optimized for the iphone 20 and the iphone 15 will be slow somehow running basic apps.
I see smartphones as a tool not a fun toy. I appreciate the improvements to screen, battery life and the cameras most of all. The last thing I’m thinking about is what ‘fun’ apps I’m missing.
Idk why the battery is far worse than my old 13 PM and yes I don’t have 5G or AOD or background refresh on
Phone upgrades have not been exciting for years The last time I upgraded a phone and was truly excited was going from the Nexus 4 to the Nexus 6P. Back then (could still be the same) Android was notorious for phasing out older Android versions. I remember absolutely loving the Nexus 4 and then over time my apps slowly became no longer supported/useable due to the version of Android the device had. That is a terrible business model. That, among others, was one of the driving forces that pushed me towards iOS. I have been using an iPhone since early 2017, I see no chance of me ever going back to the Android platform.
I started with the iPhone 8. The microphone broke, moved to the 11 Pro. Used that model for just over 3 years and picked up my current 14 Pro Max. They have all been fantastic, but not what I would deem as exciting.
This is not the case for me. I upgraded to a 1tb 15 pro max from a 64gb 12, and can finally use the device as a proper gaming machine. At last I have an iPhone capable of running a NDS simulator at +30fps. Also I got resident evil which is only playable in the 15 pro, and I can max out the graphics settings for other “console quality” games such as Wreckfest/cod which run butter smooth. And I can have all these games installed each taking up +4gb, whilst being able to record long 4K 60fps video with no worries about storage.
Oh and I can plug the phone into my TV or monitor that have USB C connections and it’s a pseudo games console.
You can play resident evil village on a17 pro chips only. They are bringing resident evil 4 remake to iOS store as well by end of year apparently. I played resident evil village , just gotta hook your controller up to your phone which is weird. But it’s cool I guess. It plays it basically as well as my $2000 gaming pc which is weird also
What new amazing things do you need to do on a phone though? I buy phones for the new headroom in processing, not these new features that no one uses.
Of course this is a marketing issue. Most people use their phones similarly to how they did 5 years but the marketing needs to make it seem like there is something new or amazing that the phone does and there really isn't
But all the underlying processing takes up more and more power so even though the batteries get bigger they never really last longer. So we are constantly stuck in a cycle of 24 hour batteries and new useless features.
The video quality blows me away. I felt a bit disappointed too that there didn’t seem to be much different but with photos it’s night and day from my 13
Yeah most of the novelty of a new phone is because of software features not hardware and there isn't anything new or exclusive to newer phones that older ones don't have. For me the main thing is battery and performance. If those are granted then new hardware is not needed.
I’ve had mine for just under a month and I’m considering returning it. It’s better in every way compared to my Xr, but there are some things I’ve noticed that I’m disappointed with:
The battery life does not seem to be as good as I thought it would be. It blows my xr out of the water, as it should, but when I first got it, I felt like I easily got over a day without needing to charge with heavy usage .However it feels like it drains much quicker than it should. It’s advertised as 29 hours of video playback, and perhaps I don’t know what that means. But I’d assume I’d only need to charge every 1.5 days up to 2 days. My last 10 days average usage is 6 h 24 m and screen idle average is 1 h 30 m per day with tiktok(I need to delete that app) being 45% and Reddit 16%. I also turned off always on screen. It’s not so much that I’m concerned with battery life today but 3-4 years later as I tend to try to get the most out of these phones.
It gets so hot charging with MagSafe it’s kinda concerning. Also the apple MagSafe cords need at least an extra foot added to the length.
Small odd little bugs. Taking a screen shot and sharing especially to instagram will result in it sorta freezing. It’s easy to just restart the app, but that worked flawlessly on the iPhone. Easy but kinda annoying workaround is saving screenshot and uploading via picture upload button.
3a. I have Apple TV and I like using it as a remote but it will get wonky sometimes such as it will connect and buttons like play will work, but I can’t move around the menu to select different apps.
There are a lot of little things that make me really like it and I definitely want to keep it. But I question in my current financial state if it’s worth it to be spending as much as I do in payments each month plus a protection plan, which has doubled my monthly cost.
I upgrade every 3-4 years so that the phones hardware can keep up with the newer iOS. Apple designs the phones around iOS and this is why I love Apple
I get it. I've been thinking a lot about tech FOMO recently.
