All around the Internet I see people complaining about how bright the iPhone Always On Display is. But I honestly prefer it because coupled with Live Activities I actually don’t need to open my phone to get the information I need. And for the amount of useful info I get, I think the battery usage is pretty impressive. What do you guys think?

It’s a matter of taste I guess, I don’t like that if I got the phone on the table everyone can see which song I’m listening to, and who sent me a message (even though they can’t see the content)

Would be best if it was just customizable, but apple

Yeah I prefer it because it has more functionality, as well as the fact that the battery is BETTER than the android implementation (i saw an AOD battery test)

Oh I didn’t know that. I saw a comparison between AOD on the 15 PM and the S23U where the S23U did slightly better. But having used the iPhone AOD the trade off feels worth it for me.

the video i saw showed the galaxy getting close but the iPhone narrowly won. the pixel didn't do so well i think

I loved it since the announcement. Was the deciding factor upgrading last year.

I’ve use Samsun and Pixel and this is the best implementation for me. It is just so nice

I’ve turned it on several time but always shut it back off. I just find it distracting, it doesn’t add value to me and I don’t like the parasitic battery drain. Maybe I’ll come around eventually.

its great, apart from the fact that it's not truly ALWAYS on, mine tends to turn off sometimes randomly...

Mine sometimes turns off as well, I’m not sure what really triggers it. Maybe when I’m using another device or something

I'm honestly not sure, it tends to be in a dark room, almost like the phones thinking oh no turn the brightness down (auto-brightness) and it just fully turns the display off.

There is the function where it’s designed to shut off when in your pocket. Maybe it uses the ambient light instead of proximity sensor, so it can also turn off when in a backpack or something.

The watch definitely does this. If your sleeve covers the display it will switch off. The rest of the time it's always on.

That swiggy notification/widget is clean.

Cant use it or my battery dies before dinner, 14pro

[–] DogzillaMD@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It doesn't cause that extreme of battery loss.

Something else is killing your battery.

I never used AOD on my Androids due to battery anxiety. Been using iPhone AOD since I made the switch this year from day 1 of the switch. No looking back.

I just wish they allow us to set a time for when it automatically turn on / off. So far it's only for sleep mode.

Battery usage is impressive. But I’d prefer if the wallpaper would either blur and/or turn greyscale, to be less eye catchy.

[–] kojaraty@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes i think battery life is better because of AOD. I dont turn on the screen often since I can see the notification from the lock screen.

Humble brag unlocked

[–] flyingkolors@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is that Lock Screen widget or live activity?

You can actually lower the brightness of the AOD. Go into settings and toggle "Reduce White Point" and obviously set your phone to 0 brightness. It's dimmer than my friend's note 10's aod.

You can also make a shortcut for the action button to toggle it whenever you use AOD.
