Before the last update my battery would easily last all day and night. I’d even have enough to keep it going until the afternoon. Since updating last night to watchOS 10.1.1, the battery on my Series 8 has been awful. I’ve not used GPS or cellular and had my phone with me all day. Anyone else had this issue? I know I only charged it to 88% this morning but I can’t remember the last time I had to top it up in the evening before a workout.

I was good (ultra 2) when I went to 10.1 and 17.1 on watch and iPhone. Then Apple pushed 17.1.1 and I’m back to battery drain. For example got less than day with 10.1 and 17.0.x. Then got 4 days on 10.1 and 17.1.0. Now down to 1.5 days on 10.1 and 17.1.1. This is horrible.

I don’t know my s9 is running like beast. Took it off the charger on Friday morning and by this morning I still had 47% and that’s with an hour workout too.

[–] PointBreakvsLebowski@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly, this is why I haven’t updated my watch and don’t plan to until I don’t see these posts anymore

Despite what Apple said, there’s no way WatchOS 10.1.1 has fixed battery drain. At least not for everyone.

My AWU2 was an absolute battery champ prior to updating to 10.1.1, but now? No way. Battery goes down 3-5% per hour without me even using it.

My biggest concern with this is the potential longer term degradation this can cause. Some people have stated WatchOS 10.2 beta has resolved this all together, but I’m super hesitant to put a beta on my watch.

[–] Toltepequeno@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same here, great battery before their battery drain “fix”. Got worse after.

[–] ConsistentShip714@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

before i updated it at all mine was dying really fast but i updated my phone and then my watch and its back to normal. im not sure if anyone else had the draining when the update came out before updating but im glad mines normal again. it would be dead by 6pm

[–] mellenger@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m using the beta and it’s worse than ever

[–] OhGodItsRyan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good to know, I’m definitely not going to load it in the event it makes my watch worse.

[–] OhGodItsRyan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

New development for me in this mess. Over the last two days, when fully charged, my watch will hang on 100% for 3-4 hours, then drop 2-3% per hour after that.

Seems like how WatchOS 10.1.1 measures battery capacity remaining is just terribly optimized.

[–] Looking_Out_To_Sea@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I had no problem with 10.1, if fact it gave my AW6 44mm a boost in battery performance to 16 hours with 20% left. So I happily installed 10.1.1 and now the watch is dead within 6 hours 2 days in a row (yes I’ve rebooted it).

[–] AudiA32015@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I updated to 10.1.1 and the battery drain was worse until I power cycled the watch and battery life is fine now. I had to do the same thing when I updated to 10.1.

[–] kkkeevinnn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What is » power cycled «

[–] dangggboi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Usually after an update, the system uses a lot of battery to index information. Give it a couple days to see if it gets better

[–] BaBaDoooooooook@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My ULTRA OG is still running like a monster, last charged to 100% Friday at 10:34am, it's now Saturday 1:34PM, has 13% juice left, 27 hours is pretty solid with what i been using it for, running, workouts, timers, apple music, etc.

Your watch is possibly caught in a sync loop with something in your iCloud account. It’s continuously trying to sync something. This happened to me about a year ago and it ended up being reminders however it could be anything that syncs with iCloud. The issue was on the server side and only Apple tech support can fix. It took about a week working with a senior advisor but one they determined what was caught in the sync loop the fix was quick.

This could be your issue.

[–] gruberkristof@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How could you figure it out? Did you end up disabling some services?

[–] InspectorAsleep5250@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do you have Always on Display on ?

[–] Brave_Analyst7540@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Delete all the 3rd party apps off your phone and it’ll fix your issues. Worked wonders with mine.

[–] rubins7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Try resetting your watch, that fixed my drain issues on my S4.

[–] Flat-Bake5096@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It did for me.

Watch os10 ruined everything

Apple watch 7, 45mm., using Nike Globe watch face. I turned AOD off, rebooted. Battery life has been great.

[–] kacsandicom@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just turned off my AW7 (the battery degraded a lot due to the draining issues) put it into the shelf and bought a Garmin.

[–] Mfcgibbs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

FYI, 10.1.1 is my first on os10 - was still on 9 until this. And as a direct comparison my battery life has taken a right beating, so can confirm that 10.1.1 has had a negative effect on my watch’s battery.

My ultra OG is draining like crazy after 10.1.1 upgrade. I easily went 2+ days without thinking about it but now it drains in like half a day wtf!!!!

[–] The_real_bandito@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It did on my watch. I have the latest SE.

[–] PinkVelvetPony@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My watch will not charge now 😥

[–] dontpolluteplz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same issue here! Watch used to last over a day easy but didn’t even last 15hrs after this update

[–] Alarming_Tooth_7733@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I the battery drain just effecting new watches vs the older ones?

[–] Hifilodown@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

10.2 public beta version worked for me (Series 7). Normally I would normally not mess with beta updates but my watch was useless otherwise. Last I heard was that the official 10.2 update is to be released in December. Watch is working great now. I turned beta updates off in settings afterwards.

[–] Madinald@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It needs a few days to optimize your watch. My battery lasted half a day after update but gone back to normal after a couple of days.

[–] shank_28@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I thought so too.

[–] nodnarbles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It did for some. Maybe factory reset.

[–] Veriliann@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

10.1.1 is a beast on my S9. i can get almost 3 full days now. not really sure how it got better but i’ll take it lol

[–] Neuromancer2112@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It fixed the drain on my Series 8. I’m now seeing about the same drain post-workday as I saw before updating to 10.

[–] Sloppypoopypoppy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same issue.

Although a round about journey.

Updated when it came out and the berry life was great. But then went to the gym and GymKit had stopped working.

Unpaired and repaired yesterday and then GymKit worked but the battery was draining super fast.

Am currently unpairing/repairing again and hoping for the best.

This made a big difference for me - a pain to reset FaceID but worth it to get battery life back (note have not tried this for 10.1.1): Weather Complication fix and why I don’t think it’s the battery drain. : AppleWatch (reddit.com)

[–] weks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

10.2 fixed it for me

[–] Secure-Wash333@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I had issues with 10.1, but 10.1.1 fixed it. Apple watch ultra 2, almost 17 hrs since charging it and still have 81% left. Haven’t trained or anything but I have been wearing it all the time. (Notifications, sensors etc working all the time).

I encourage everyone to report this issue to Apple so they take this battery drain issue seriously!

[–] DroneCyclist@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I had new U2 m. Did the update and the battery just dropped. Upgraded to 10.2 and it improved battery slightly but the wrist temp didn’t work. So I had it from Amazon and within the 30 days and I returned it. Since then I had a replacement and it’s been 48 hours and I’ve used 51% with cellular on etc. and I’m using 10.1.1. I did delete some of apps such as tops and depth and any that I would never use. Also some didn’t seem to work properly so that could have been an issue

[–] therealsimontemplar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

After updating to 10.1 my watch drained extremely fast. After 2 days of that it stopped taking a charge. Apple charged me $99 plus tax for my battery issues.

I’ve been using macs since ‘88 and iPhones and watches since they came out and never had a problem this serious with them, and to say I’m disappointed with apples reaction is such an understatement that it’s just wrong. I’m angry. I loved having an Apple Watch but as the saying goes, “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” I’m seriously considering going back to nice mechanical watches.

For me it mega fixed it

[–] BDurel@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My Apple Watch 6 battery had started draining a little faster than normal. I use it a lot all day long. I turned off Always On and it started lasting all day and into night again. Updated to 10.1.1 2 days ago in hopes I could use Always On again. Now my battery shows 100% at 8 am and dead at 11 am, 3 hours later! Can’t use it at all.

[–] chrisagiddings@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Similar boat. Slightly longer live with my Series 6. 100% at 01:00, 35% by noon.

Last week before being forced to update, I would be 80% at 01:00 and I’d be around 30-35% by 22:00 (10pm) depending on level of activity.

[–] Bucket1578@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

10.1.1 gave me the bug!

[–] Upper_Baseball5330@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can someone explain this? lol
