My phone is still functional and does everything that I need it for. I don’t replace things that are working just for the newer model. There are more important things to spend my money on, or save it for a rainy day.
Apple
A place for Apple news, rumors, and discussions.
I have (obviously) an SE 2020 and because I work at home and hardly go anywhere I can live with charging it all the time. Like OP, I don't need anything fancy.
Also, for work, I wanted a lowest common denominator phone (small) so I could see what our customers with small phones are seeing.
I’m hoping/waiting for a SE in a iPhone 13 mini body with usb-c.
I had one for awhile but I'm currently rocking the SE3. Same great phone but with 5G and a faster chip.
I just switched to SE 2020 and loving it because it fits in my palm perfectly. I have been using “oversized” 6” + Android phones and missed how nice the SE fit in my hand. If I switch I’d go for iPhone 14, but I won’t because it’s still overpriced.
Ya the iPhone 14 sucks lol. I hate it just as much as the 7 almost.
I upgraded from SE2020 for the 5G connectivity. Afterwards I have been enjoying features like Magsafe / better camera which I did not care about. If you are still happy with the phone, just stay with it, but pretty sure you will have another level of satisfaction by the upgrade.
I'm Rocking an SE 2022 model for a year now and it's perfect lol will upgrade to the 15 pro model afterwards though
I bought my SE on release with the intention of it lasting five years. Three years in and it looks good to last. This is my first iPhone, I moved from Android because I wanted to get away from the constant upgrading. Spending money every couple of years just to have a supported phone.
Spend a little more for an iPhone for better support.
You might wanna look at Samsung newest A series or even the s23 Fe for the same price as an iphone SE + you get the same amount of longevity
My partner who just bought that SE last month said they’ll be dead and buried before they give up their home button.
On my SE an inch of the screen on right side from top to bottom not responding , anyone having such an issue?
My mom has that phone and the reason she has an upgraded is because it still works fine. That's usually what triggers most people to update.... You would need to be compelled to upgrade because you're not getting what you need out of your current device.
Although I was tempted to grab her the iPhone SE 2022 now that it's on sale at Walmart for so cheap.
Dew it, hella worth it.great pocket phone for cycling and stuff
PWM is limiting my phone choices
I’ve had an SE for a long time, and honestly, none. I like the home button and TouchID. I want nothing to do with FaceID. I wouldn’t mind if they made the phone a little bigger, and I could even sacrifice the home button, button TouchID is non-negotiable for me. I don’t want a phone camera staring at me all day, and I don’t want to use my face to unlock a phone. Way too “Big Brother” for me.
“ I don’t want a phone camera staring at me all day, and I don’t want to use my face to unlock a phone. Way too “Big Brother” for me.”
It a IR camera that’s sandboxed. Not even Apple can access it. Take the tin foil off.
5G/Cancer
What device I want next? An iPhone mini.
The big reason that’s stopping me from upgrading into the numbered iPhones are the size (and the price, but I can just collect more money tbh). I will never use a phone larger than the iPhone SE, ever.
My 12 pro has been great for battery as well but I turn off the 5g since it kinda sucks in my area. I usually end the day with 50% and 3hrs sot
I'm waiting to see if there's a new SE this spring. If there isn't, probably another 8-12 months with the 2020.
iPhone se 3rd gen is perfect for you
I would get an iPhone 13 mini on the resale market if I were you ... You can find them for like 400 bucks or less
Apple certified refurbish section got them, not sure if 13 mini but I saw 12 mini few days ago for less than 400 gbp in uk so im pretty sure they’re also available in us
I love my se 2020. I love everything about it. I don’t know what I will do when it breaks. I want a phone exactly like this one
There's rumors about an SE 4 with an iPhone 14 design and a single 48 MP camera. It'll be an interesting device
I upgraded from an Iphone 7 go an Iphone 15 PM recently and the battery life is definitely the biggest difference. I also have a 2020 SE I use at home to play certain games that my 7 can’t (due to nonstop crashing), and the biggest difference I’ve noticed between my 15 PM and the 7/SE is the substantial battery life improvement and zero latency/smooth user experience. I’ve been using this tiny little Iphone 7 for the last 7 years and it took me no more than 2-3 days to get used to the size of the Iphone 15 PM. For a phone of this size, the 15 PM is actually pretty light and has been amazing to use so far. I will admit the 7/SE is more comfortable to hold though. But it’s really not that big of a deal
Get the se3. Natural upgrade. Little better in every way. The newest iPhones are always the worst value…
Imo se2 is better value by a mile
Owner of an SE 2020 here. It’s still going so well I don’t have the necessity to an upgrade atm. My ideal device is an SE with the same form factor of a Mini but as recent rumours said, the next version is going to have the same size of an iPhone 14 (6.1”). I don’t wanna go back to Android so I will be forced to move towards bigger screen, whether I like it or not.
The Price.
I still rocking the Iphone SE first generation. Yes, im stingy, thats why i have an SE.
Im looking every day for a price drop on newer iphones, but it just doesnt happen.
The moment IOS 15 will stop working for all the apps, is the moment i need to upgrade i guess.
The size you’re looking for will never exist again. (At least on iOS side). The sooner you understand that the better.
I upgraded to 15 Pro Max for the camera/ zoom and faster USB speeds. I shoot personal videos and photos on the phone and then edit on an iPad or computer.
The regular 15 and 15 Pro aren’t that much larger overall compared to the SE.
11 Pro seems a bit old. It has the A13 chip, which is the same as the SE 2020 & 9th Gen iPad. So it is just a lateral upgrade to have a larger phone with a better screen & camera, both of which don’t seem to matter to you.
I’d wait for the SE4 if I was you. I tried to hold out for it, but my SE2020’s was starting to wear out. The battery was at 84% health/ service needed and the lightning port was about to need a replacement. So, I caved and got a new phone. I’m very happy with my 15PM.
I don’t like big phones either. I also wanted Touch ID.
Thinking about upgrading to an iPhone 12 mainly for 5G. Not a fan of the size, but it seems like a necessary trade-off. Tested my wife's iPhone 13 and realized Face ID struggles in dark settings. iPhone 12 is fairly cheap with my provider $0 for 24 months.
iPhone 13 mini
Just to say I’ve got the exact same one as you and when in 2022 it got a bit too bartered I bought a refurb of the same one. I like the home button, don’t need anything snazzy and like the size. I’ll be staying with the home button line for as long as I can, although I wish they’d do a bit more of an upgrade when bringing out the SE, one hour extra battery life isn’t much of an upgrade
My previous phone was the SE2. The battery solidified my decision to upgrade to the base 14. While I still carry a powerbank, I don't use it as much as I used to. I charge my phone like once or twice a day, depending on how often I'm using it. That's nothing compared to 6-7!!
Money.
Mine is still perfectly fine. I don’t plan on replacing it for at least the next 3 or 4 years and that’s only if it breaks.
I am using iPhone SE 2020 since the launch. But today is my last day daily driving this. Tomorrow the new 15 Pro Max arrives. The SE overall was fine, but I was getting pretty frustrated with the battery life. It barely lasts few hours of use. I also wanted better camera for photography. So made the upgrade.
It’s a small thing that is preventing me..money
Not a se2020 owner but I have a iphone xr (2018). I have not upgrade cause my phone works very well and there is not much difference from an xr to iphone 15pro in terms of my needs (i dont game or create content). I mainly use my phone for gps, texting, reddit and thats about it.
Se 2022 should be best option. I moved from SE 1->Se2020->SE2022
I recently upgraded to a 15 from an xs of 2019… the battery is the main selling point, camera is also very good. The thing I miss is 3dtouch, really feels a step backwards until I learned about the hold the space bar trick
I like having a smaller phone, I'm holding onto it until I can get a 13 mini or until Apple releases a new mini.
The 11pro is six months older than your SE2020 and has the same A13 chip. Not an upgrade at all.
Considering your explanation, I would get the SE2022. It is a huge upgrade in the chip dept, that A15 will last well into 2027 with full software updates, and beyond with security updates. Everything you’re used to, but with a much improved processor, 10% larger battery by default coupled with a more efficient processor brings easily 20%+ better battery life, cheap to repair if broken since parts are “outdated” yet widely available for literally pennies, and A15 adds great functionality to the 12MP main camera making its photo capability still viable in 2023. The addition of 5G means you won’t be on life support for a cellular connection any time in the next ten years.
I just ordered two of the iPhone SE 2022 models, the rough straight talk’s Black Friday sale ($49 for the phone when you buy one month of prepaid service, and then wait 61 days for it to be automatically unlocked).
As a 14 pro max owner, from previous 13 pro max, I am strongly considering using the SE2022 as my daily driver for a while to see if it’s really all that limiting. I’ve been wanting to go back to a smaller phone for a long time. My wife will likely be using the other SE2022 as her daily driver and selling her 13 mini, as the square design is too uncomfortable for her small hands.
The SE 2022 has the same internals as the iPhone 13 lineup. It’s a beast of a phone, bottled in an older chassis that provided excellent repairability and a powerful phone at a ridiculous price (if you grab the $49 deal!)
Do you have to renew with ST after 30 days, then again to hit 61 days for it to unlock?
