Like the title says, coming from android (more specifically pixel)

I did enjoy the inital promise of customization offered on android devices, but for whatever reason Google has done away with huge portions of that freedom and weirdly “pure android” has started to feel more like IOS.

Much to my pleasant surprise apple has fixed a huge number of my complaints with iOS since my last iPhone 7 years ago. To be frank I used to shit on iPhone but am eating a lot of crow here admitting that they definitely fixed most of their shortcomings and are clearly pulling away in the smartphone race (like you needed me to tell you that)

That being said… HOW HOW HOW is the iPhone keyboard so bad? I know this sounds like a small problem but when I last used an iPhone years ago, the period placement (near the space bar) caused me to constantly fat finger random periods into most of my searches and messages. It’s hideous design and I can’t understand for the life of me how apple hasn’t solved this wart of a problem. Especially because I KNOW that most people who work at apple are aware of the issue because it affects basically anyone with an iPhone! LOL

Not only is it an old, know issue, but it’s an obvious one that actually causes inconvenience. Not just the period, the entire board is cramped and it’s genuinely difficult to type on compared to Gboard, which I am using now to type this. It took me a few days to realize I could use gboard on IOS and HOLY SHIT is the difference night and day. I actually feel bad for all the people (most) using the stock iOS keyboard. It was like being stuck in hell lol

Just bewildered by how apple has solved so much yet somehow ignored this simple fix for going on a decade

man, even google keyboard on ios sucks, but not quite as bad as the stock keyboard. god damn i miss android so much. next year can't come soon enough, when apple joines the rest of the world with RCS and can send high quality media over SMS

SwiftKey app

Yes, iOS keyboard is terrible. Swiping helps but only so much (and seems worse at selecting the right word). I keep hoping for improvement.

I completely agree, I also miss having a wider variety of symbols on my keyboard and having the number row always display. Text selection is also super weird and inconsistent on iOS. I still choose not to use gboard though cause it looks out of place

The one thing that shocked me is that it's actually not less buggy lol. Especially twoards the end of IOS 16 and since 17, had many bugs.

It's just got prettier animation that fake good framerate but it adds moments where user input is not doing anything.

Love iPhone and will stay on it but it's definitely not WAY better than android now having had both (iphone in may 2023)

Main social media apps all run much better on iPhone though.

Animations on iPhones are so slow. Even after pressing the lock button, it takes about a second to dim the display.

All these features and they still don't even have a back gesture

Thanks for the Gboard tip. My wife wanted me to have “face time” so I made the switch away from the galaxy ecosystem :(. Every day battle with slowly converting my iPhone to have an android feel. Gracias!

It amazes me that using a friend's Android, I can instantly type anything effortlessly, whereas on my own large iPhone I've had for years, I'm constantly mistyping.

Just because android and ios look clean doesn't mean they look the same.

I can type like hell on an iPhone. I have an android I have to use at work at times, it feels like I have two left thumbs? I don’t know what it is, but I cannot type on it. I think it’s all in what you’re used to.

[–] UneditedReddited@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have typed on an iOS keyboard for over a decade and never considered the keyboard to be bad at all. To type a . I hit the space bar twice, or I click the 123 with me left thumb and then they period or symbol I need... never randomly typing periods

I’m in the same boat as you, I used to shxt on iPhones and while they have improved the keyboard is so fucking bad

[–] turningtop_5327@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I felt the same about Pixel 6a keyboard. I believe the two are just different and it takes time to get used to either of them

Swift key is amazing

[–] dead_bothan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s clunky for sure but you get used to it I suppose. In that one sentence alone I had to do a delete/retype 4 times.

[–] SquareAmphibian7581@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have no idea whats your problem 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–] Blizzard_Wind@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Also for dual language user (MY, Eng) it is so annoying they only predict English words... Gboard I can both use for prediction words so I don't have to change it to MY

Isn’t the period hidden behind the 123 button now?
